What's up everyone! I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with/has owned an Olde? I just picked my boy up about a week ago, he's 7 going on 8 weeks... Full of energy, is hard headed and stubborn. He also likes to bite, a nip at everything including hands and children. How do you combat that without breaking his spirits and not deter him from guarding/protecting his home and family? I want him to be a guard dog that I can turn on and off

Pup is too young to understand corrections, let alone harsh ones. Getting your hands scratched up a bit from those small sharp teeth comes with the territory. Pup explores its world with its mouth. Keep small children separated from the pup as needed.

Instead, redirect the pup’s energy to a safe toy to bite and chew.

Once the pup gets a little bigger, you can teach “no” and boundaries etc.

Get a book at the library or read up on puppy training on line. Lots of info out there.

Dog will need to be obedient, well socialized and at least one year old if you want to begin training for personal protection, in which case you should find a professional trainer, familiar with bull breeds.

Good luck with your new Buldogge. Cool breed. Post a pic.

I heard these dogs are verry different. Some are lazy couch-potatoes and verry dumb, other are intelligent and full of energy. Some are protective, some are not. But they look like a english bulldog should look like thats for sure. And they are healthier.

Some of these dogs are curs, as with any breed I'd say... But more so breeds like the OEB, Rottie, etc.

This is in correlation with what I've been thinking to do, and with what I've been doing thus far. I'm not sure if I want to train for personal protection, I just want to be confident in the thought that he'll protect the family

OKCdogman82 this is the dumbest, worst advice that could possibly be posted here. Do not ever hit a dog with an object, if you really have to hit a dog use your own body. If you hit a dog with an object, it will respect the object, not you. GK1's advice is on point.
