Proper way to correct puppy biting.

There must be hundreds of "methods" out there for the proper way to address puppy's biting.

I know it's a natural behavior, I'm just looking for opinions of people who have experience with the breed.

 

Don't play tug with young pups if biting is a problem. If they catch what you're tugging they HAVE TO bite and hold to keep it. You're raising his prey drive with things like tug and chase, then telling him not to bite. That can be confusing to a very young pup. Wait til they know the rules of the house before they find out they just broke one! You might wanna wait til 6-8 months or older to play tug AND CORRECT

 

The most common and easiest known method is to say in a stern strong voice NO!!!!!!!!!!. LOL

 

OK OK OK ...i know this isn't going to go over well as boogie would've said "plug em" . All BS aside "C'MON man its a pup" They are gonna do this best scenario is do the no thing as my gay rasta buddy sai said or i like to use the "ah ah ahhh ahh no" (say it out loud)

 

Always keep toys that they can chew on close by, and when they're biting you tell them no and then turn their attention to the toy. They'll want you more than the toy most of the time but just keep doing it. Once I started doing this I never stopped, and you will end up correcting your dog way less in the end. Also the dogs I have now as adults don't constantly need a toy in front of them to stay out of trouble.

Thanks guys. This is how I've been correcting him and all my previous pups. Just wondering if anyone had any different methods that worked for them.

 

I take my hand and shove it down there mouth to see if they really wanna bite normally they don't ,if the young pup acts like he wants to I yell out ioud like he is killing me. ...normal they look surprised and stop ,eventually they figure it out,,now I just gotta get them off my shoes and ankles...lol. mouthy pups I try to keep some type of teething toy around....so far so good

 

I have to say I have never had any luck with any chewing toys , alomost always they gonechew on what ever it is you don't want them to.Only way to stop it is keep a close eye on them and correct them every time you catch them and with some even this don't work.Especially when it comes to this breed.Just keep a eye on them and if you habe to leave them unattended , don't leave them somewhere they can do damage.I'm not gone tell you what to give them to chew on , sometimes accidents happen.I know a guy that leftt a tight bred Sorrells dog in a crate and gave him a towell to lay on and he ate the whole dam towwell.If they are extreme chewers I'd just rather leave them nothing if I ain't around.

 

Well puppies are going to chew and gnaw! It has A soothing effect to them! Kinda off subject but we were playing with A friends puppy last week, I went and got A small mirror and held it up, it was so funny he must have thought that was the ugliest thing he ever saw, he would try and attack his reflection....10/12 weeks old! I told him he's A keeper!!! LOL

 

if you want to stop a pup biting your fingers or feet etc,give it a sharp tap on the nose withe a rolled up newspaper and shout no!its not rocket science people,just a bit of good old fashioned sense!

 

cow hooves i keep a big ass box of them around!!! there cheap thru my foster and smith catalog.

Redirection has always been what I use, sometimes it takes longer than others to get em to catch on. One problem Ive seen, people will rough house a pup playing the ol grab & shake & make the pup chew on em, it confuses the pup, they dont know when to grab ya & shake or not, thinking its always play time
