Starting out-Head Starts-Opportunity knocks?

Sup everyone. I ran into someone the other while out walking my dog. We struck a quick conversation about dogs and he went on to tell me that he had a girl who has successfully had 2 litters and is 3 years old. He wants to part ways with her and make some room for other dogs/projects, and he is willing to let her go for $100. When asked if anything is wrong with her he assures that there is not, and that he just wants her gone. $100 for a bitch who has had 2 litters, 11 pups each time sounds a little too good to be true.

If you've seen me posting you know I'm fairly new, and am still learning ALL I can learn! This seems like a good opportunity to at least have a new dog, if I don't breed her we would still love and take care of her. I have an 8 month old male OEB at home and would NOT breed them together at all? Just wondering what some of the vets in this group think about this whole ordeal, how would you move forward? Pros/Cons OUTSIDE of what I may have already considered in my own mind. I'm attaching pics of her as well!

 

After I read this "patience is a virtue" played over and over in my head. That'll probably be the best route in all honesty, I don't really want a dog whose lineage I don't know, and if I get a girl I'd like for breeding her to be an option. So I'm on the fence, but I do humbly thank you for the advice. I'll just keep learning and connecting with people when I can.

DONT DO IT! Save that hundun until you figure out what you REALLY WANT out of these dogs? If you bred ANY female, what would the purpose be? To have more dogs "to love and care for"? How many would/could you keep? Now what about the rest?? No offense but it doesn't seem like you really know what you're getting into. Keep researching and reading! Wait til you feel you have a good grip on APBT ownership, then figure out what kind of owner you WANT TO BE, THEN figure out what type of owner you ARE!

 

The type you are thinkin of don't just pop up when you randomly walk your dog! Usually you have to know somebody or somebody that know somebody. I bought a couple like that, only one made it out of 2. I've found it's the older ladies and gents that don't register but still have the truth.

 

I respect that, and will humbly take the advice. I gotta continue reaching out and trying to connect with people in my state/city. Seek and you'll find.

One of the best bitches I ever owned happened from some guy walking up to me seeing I had bulldogs. You'd be surprised how many average joes have nicely bred dogs that are "just dogs" to them.

$100 isn't much it would all depend on what you want the dog for.

 

How often, and/or, likely is that to happen?? I agree a hundun ain't much for a SPORTING dog. It is for a hope and a dream to me tho. How many dogs are bred as advertised, especially $100 dogs? I ain't spending a bill hopin a random dog turns out. Dogs bred purely for sport don't always turn out. I'd rather spend that bill on the dogs I have, know about, or just save it... Again, how likely is it a randomly bred dog turns out to be the truth??

I agree. IMO it's also a waste to gamble on a "maybe". If the dog is from sporting dogs, yes, it's worth a 100. If it's joe blow off the streets I don't know, I'll pass. I could spend half on my dogs and half on my daughter. These days I don't have a bill to blow on somethin that more than likely will fail. Hell, I would buy ammo before I buy a mystery dog. To each his own tho

 

But it's not about you and your situation. It's this guy who wants a bitch who apparently throws a lot of puppies. Like I said before it depends on what you want out of the dog. People have different levels of disposable income
