Kiwidogman I recently came into some good bajo dogs down through Gr ch Richard Ramirez are you familiar? It's from working stock. I already made my plan but out of curiosity how do see this mixing with heavy nigerino? I'm trying to get the gameness, intelligence, and crunch from Richard Ramirez with the intensity of my nigerino dogs.

Yes he was a great one. My humble opinion is that if you are feeding red or buckskin Nigerino dogs you will get a higher percentage with that cross than if you are feeding black ones.

Unless your Banjo stuff is black of course! But then it wouldnt really be banjo stuff.... would it?

The debate is as old and as common as the dogs themselves.

The decision is mostly based on what gives the individual the warm fuzzies. For every cold dog that threw a good one there is ten good ones that threw a bad one. And one could mix and match the words to make that cover every angle of the discussion.

Some will breed a cold dog because they have a ton of dogs and they can take a chance with the litter. Some because it is their only option. Some simply to sell puppies off of a pretty pedigree. And I am sure there are many reasons.

I have a male out back now that is bred down off of winning and producing Red Boy dogs. He is about 5/8th Red Boy. We basically mixed and matched the same dogs in different order from a breeding that produced a 4XW/3XW and 1XX. We make the breeding and I pick what at the time was the king of the box as an 8 week old puppy. Years later he is cold as ice. The 3X and 1X were hot very young. The 4XW was well over three, close to four before he showed an interest. He won 4 by the time he was 5, twice going over two hours.

In some hands this dog could sell some puppies on pedigree alone. Since I am not in the puppy business it has been a number of times that I thought about doing a breeding with him to see if the 'skipped a generation' would play out. I would raise a couple and place a few where it is fairly tough to hold down a chain spot. Pretty much just to see.

The kicker is that I would not post the topic on here so I would have to read everyone telling me about the rules. Almost like a having bulldogs is like being in a homeowner's association. I can pretty much piss off my porch in peace so if I want to breed and feed a dog it would be like pissing off my front porch with the privacy of the wrap around tree line. LOL

I do like when the Sorrells, and Claytons. Clemmons and Beaudreaux names get thrown out some forty years later. Ibet they did not post in the magazines "dogs off cold dogs for sale". I bet it was after the dogs had proved themselves it was known a parent was cold. But that then gave permission for every body else to be "an all time great".

Been busting wood most of the morning. The ol' gray mule ain't what she use to be. Sort of internet venting.

We do not burn wood anymore. I do not bust wood all that often. Most of the time it is to cook a pig or a cooker full of chicken.

Today it is mostly red oak but some hickory. The pig on the grill was done in late October. He was cooked a straight red oak. It was really nice wide grained wood that left a lot of coals in the bottom of the barrel. That was about four hours in and we finished up about four hours later.
