Hell yeah all kids we are becoming weaker as people just sitting around on our devices and video game console. I always attack the kids and wife to keep them on their toes . Gotta be careful though they pretty good. It's good fun

My son was in 8th grade. He did a 8 hour seminar with Gustavo Muchado at the Pendergrass Academy in NC. He was big kid so he ended up with the adults instead of the kid class. He paired with Gustavo all day. The ability to perform at anything is easy, the ability in turn to teach that is difficult. When one can truly teach, it is something really special. Gustavo is a great teacher.

They worked on the arm triangle choke for hours it seemed. My son was doing really well. Gustavo the same.

That following Monday was the conference tournament for middle school wrestling. The other kid grabbed my boy in a regular old 8th grade head lock. The crowd was crazy. Wrestling parents are pshycotic, border line sociapaths. He moved and positioned himself and his arms slid in between up and over, thru, and cinched in tight. 50-75 parents from our side screaming for him to "GO-GO-GO" and my sole voice screaming "STOP-STOP-STOP". Luckily just as the kid started to fade his shoulder hit the mat for the pin. A second longer and things could have been really bad.

The moral of the story. The shit works.

Secondary moral. There is a time and place for everything. 8th grade wrestling with no other BJJ guys monitoring was not the best place.

    Babbling.

Don't worry. Passing out is not bad. Just luck of oxygen to the brain. Lights go out for a while and that's it. No damage.
Real damage are concussions. KO etc... If I lived in the states, I would never let my kid play football but I would encourage various martial arts.

Lack of oxygen to the brain is bad, especially for a child. It might not kill you, but it damn sure ain’t helpin you in ANY way at all. My kid better tap until he/she hits 18, or I’m gettin in that ass

The problem I saw was that the other thought he was wrestling and he had no BJJ experience. When things started getting dim and his lights were fading, he did not know tapping was the answer. He was fighting the pin.

    It ended well.

If the kid is drawned for about 20 minutes and recovered with cpr, then POSSIBLY there is going to be a brain issue out of luck of oxygen. There are cases that a kid recovered after half an hour without brain issues.
Not passing out for a couple of seconds...

After 20 minutes you would likely be brain dead... brain cells start to die after a couple of minutes. Your body has an emergency supply of air to keep the brain working. Keep hitting that “reset button” by “passing out for a few seconds” and see the long term affect. Ppl tap to save themselves perminent damage. That half hour kid was a miracle, don’t follow his example.

Just google it and you'll see I'm right...
Even though, a couple of seconds don't matter

I did google it. That doesn’t mean getting choked out or passing out is good for your brain. I don’t need to google that

Judo is definitely not more well rounded. Deciding on what martial art you want to take depends on what your goals are, what your objective is and why you want to get out of it.

I was going to mention you as another guy who does bjj and mma. I remember s similar thread on here back in 2010 you said you are A purple belt and mma fighter.

Back to topic , I guess depends on the gym but I believe judo especially kodoan judo is better because it cover ground work, throws, self defence, and it's, what maeda taught the Gracie folks he taught them kano jiu jitsu later named kodokan judo. But Gracie's ignored the throws and focused on ground work more. And now you have no gi.. But in original humaita Gracie de jiu jitsu academia, there's no nogi, only kimono. But the 30 odd throws passed down to them by maeda as tashi waza, they aren't being taught systematically as maeda taught them. Is why the call their Gracie jiu jitsu not maeda jiu jitsu. Mind you an official conde koma or maeda judo club still exist in Brazil. And the teach the maeda way and their lineage go back to him.

Yea, I'm a black belt now. Received it almost 3 years ago. I agree that it definitely depends on the gym. Your still gonna have a better chance going to a jiu jitsu gym than a judo gym. I have yet to see a pure judo martial artist beat a pure Brazilian jiu jitsu artist.

I agree I would have better chance in mma with bjj then judo.

Yes you have seen I'm sure, helio Gracie put the challenge to judokas to beat his Gracie jiu jitsu and he was beaten by submission . Founder of bjj getting beaten on their challenge by a judoka, so he failed and proved to the world at that time that either judo was superior or that it is also as effective in the ground
    Congtas on the bb.
