New Staffordshire bull terrier dog - not the same.

Discussion in 'Staffordshire Bull Terriers' started by Mr Brown, Feb 1, 2018.

  1. Personally no.not in this day and age.many years ago they did compete to some degree.and there's many people that can confirm this.but% wise they are minimal.. The a.p.b.t. is superior at what he dose..the consistency of them has been solid for way over a century.

Unusual working style that. Most digging men who own staffs use them as strong dogs if you need a digging terrier then you'd be far better off with a patterdale or a fell terrier. Never seen a staff that could fit safely to ground.

Have a 18 month old 45lb Staffordshire bull terrier here in the states that caught a nice sized mean boar in the water the first day he saw a hog. Fun driven dog.

  10. David what was the conformation like on ur staff bull?was it quite leggy? Or was it quite short and stocky?also did it take some training to get it to work,or did it show a natural inclination to work??...

  11. By the way sherman and david...how are/were ur staff bulls bred??

  17. Wow David that's awesome! I thought 15"would have been a bit small for catch work.some working type staffs over here are are about that height, but most are a bit bigger.the old breed standard was far better(before 1949)as it called for a height of 15-18". After 1949 the kennel club(British)changed the standard to 14-16".a thing that should never have happened! After this the dogs started to be to squat. The working strains in Ireland some 20 years ago were more like the first standard.. They were a far better type....they are quite rare now though..
