  1. Oh my dear rescue dog is turning into a money bucket. That is ok though. First we took her to the vet and she had an ear infection so they had to put her under and clean it out. Then she had worms.....did that..shots....now she is in heat. :( Help me out here. I think they bleed for 7 days right?! But they can get pregnant anytime after that in the next 14 days? I don't remember its been a long time since I had a dog. Anyways....I can get her fixed a week after that. So, am I going to have every boy dog in the neighborhood knocking on my door? What a drag.

Sounds like you have your hands full. Umm about the heat question. My dog bled for 2-3 weeks i believe. I cant remember exactly. It would have been easier to keep track of but i had another dog bleeding at the same time. Hes got a clotting disorder so it takes him awhile to heal up.

Try doing a search on yahoo or something. YOu should be able to find the info really quick.

  4. :) Thanks! I am going to stick with it. She deserves.

yeah, females in heat can be a real pain in the butt. Just keep her seperate from any males and keep a good eye on her. Males can scale a 6ft fence very easily so watch her very closely. When Raven had her fist heat she bled for 3 weeks. Good Luck.

Sounds lke fun :) Females in heat typically bleed for about 3 weeks, although the bleeding tends to lessen somewhat. You usually breed them around the 2 week mark.
Keep it up with your girl, it's worth it and she'll love you for taking the time with her :)

These are rescue dogs. We do NOT encourage the breeding of rescued pit bulls. ;)

as mentioned, on average the typical cycle will last "about" three weeks. During the first couple of days, the males will want her, but she won't be interested in them. Then, during the second stage, (estrus), she'll be interested in the males, and this stage lasts, typically from about four days til three weeks. again, this is the typical, but every female is different.

Hello all, Many on this site are more educated on this than I am, But This is how It went with my Krystal. Her first heat cycle lasted for several months so says my daughter, I adopted her full time Dec 2nd(The Love of my life) and her 3rd cycle lasted 20 days and she bleed every day (some days "more" than others) on day 20 I let her out and didn't watch and a Bull Mastiff was on her, not locked just starting. I broke them apart and had her spayed 14 days later. The surgery was harder on her than I had expected from all the research I had done. It took about 2 weeks for her to get back to her old self. Now with a good diet and Pet-Tabs vitamins she is stronger and healthier and happier than ever. Joel.

When my shepherd was spayed she was back to herself within hours of being home and was actually more active then, first time in her life she played with tennis balls. She was 5 when she was spayed.

  13. I have no intentions of breeding her. She is just going to be a pet. I don't know her blood lines and we aren't positiveon her temperment yet. She is so timid and scared. I really think this dog has been mistreated. Any ideas on how to build her confidence?

  14. Love and attention......lots of it! She will come around. Good luck with your girl.

  15. She is coming around I think. She gets really happy to see my kids. I haven't exposed her to them much since I don't know her history. I am getting really attached to her. She is also getting better around men. Now I am going to find a nice strong harness and leash and get her out into the world and let her know that is ok out there when she's with me.

Wil, I'm glad to hear things are going well & getting better every day. We're all here for you with support. Keep it up & keep us updated on her progress!

  17. She had a litter of puppies while she was a puppy. Does that mean I won't be able to make her nice and thick?
