Yep. I know a guy who put up a lot of W's and owned one a lot called the best to ever look thru a collar and he did the same. He kept his dogs under the match weight as much as 2-3lbs and then worked/fed them up over the last half of the keep. I tried it and I liked what I saw in the end. We had two differences in that his kept dogs were indoors and mine were mostly outdoors. It was a little harder to factor in the work and the night time cold as some mornings the dog would be 4 pounds under.

And as many times as I have said it is all about winning the main reason I did not latch on to the 2lb under method is the dogs simply looked rail thin. 2-3lbs is nothing really as far as over all appearance goes when carrying chain weight but bring one down to his ideal show weight and then shave 2 or 3 more pounds off and I hate that 'look'.

Those dogs can be fed multiple pounds of food per day, hydrated perfectly and be in perfect health (relative) but I simply did not like my dogs with the 'light look'.

And to show there are many avenues I met an older fellow once and all of his dogs looked rail thin and just about poor looking. He kept his dogs lighter than show weight year around. All of them. They only made it to show weight for the show. When he worked/fed one up he always had th stronger dog at whatever weight. Like BB said, the strongest at the weakest/lightest point. I can see the point and I can see the theory and I think it actually works but I could not walk out and see a yard full of dogs like that everyday.

Just not my cup of tea.

As said before, one of the best things about these dogs is that there are multiple ways to get there. As soon as I swear by one and preach it to the masses I will have my ass handed to me late on a Saturday night. And hopefully, sometimes, vice versa as well.

There are more dogmans who are doing this. Some are doing this for the reason you mention but others are doing it just because they want to give the dog the feeling they can feel better just because off more eating than they were eating. They try to make the dog mentally stronger but like i told. I dont love to play much with dogs weight why would you do that because you are all ready working him get to the his weight. . First you let your dog loose weight to come in his best weight after you pass this weight and at last you want to go that weight again in his last weeks. Playing to much in his last weeks. Insulin issue. Its called for a reason . His best weight.

We share the same idea. Its not a bad tactiek, but with dogs outside at chain this can damage your dogs kidney very bad. If you got them in your home is a effective sty of working your dogs to their weight but otherwise all year unfeeded dogs dont make any sense

It works. It just looks bad. It is a little harder to do if they are above weight all year and pulled below and then worked/fed back to show weight. It also works to keep them under their entire lives and then bring them up for the show. I seen it. Been on the other side of it. It works.

It is just something I can't look at everyday.

I will bring them down to show weight a couple weeks in and finish the work at show weight every morning prior to work. But I can't keep them below based on my personal preference of what a dog should look like when I walk out my back door.

What is your thoughts about hormonale balanced.
Maybe you misunderstood me . Underweight i mean when the dog dont get enough food. Just enough to survive. In that condition it candamage the kidneys.

Totally understand that slim....my unk keep his rail thin all year round...and I just can't do that from the same reason of what I think my dogs should look like ....I'm normally 3 pds away from pit weight during the end of summer and normally there all fall so if my weight called out I'm not far away from show weight ...and keeping a dog inside during cold weather besides keeping 1 outside is a real big factor I wouldn't play with...inside is best for me

Half a kilo extra during summermonths and a kilo extra in winter for the outside dogs was the way they were kept at here. Thus needed a little trimdown to their true weight for the weightpull-show.

Depends on what you are feeding and how you feeding. Kibble, carbs, sugars react differently than then protein, fat based diet . To really understand lems maxim stress recovery is understand glycogen vs fat usability how to manipulate the biochemical processes. Off balance burn glycogen run hot short nights no recovery. Lbs under then on the money show time once the biochemical processes is changed the dog has a full tank and little glycogen burns.

    So
Thats the reason off using protein fat based diet by low carbs based diet. By low carbs based diet deplete the healty glycogen store in muscle and liver r. When you deplete glycogenstores, you also have chance to be dehydrated . Thats the one off many reason for using fat by protein based diet.

Salt and potassium electrolytes keeps the dehydration and fatty liver at bay.

I also like the idea of working the dog on true weight during keep, then pre keep is for cutting to ideal weight. With that method, the dog will get stronger on match weight and below.
