Champion, Grand Champion, & Register of Merit Listings

I'd like to say a word or two about the registering of Champions, Grand Champions and Register of Merit listings:

It's not all that difficult for a dog to earn a Championship. Neither is it easy, as so many 2x winners will attest to. All a dog has to do to be eligible for his championship is to win at three shows that are judged by qualified judges, and have those wins recorded in the Journal. A dog can win over three relatively unknown or novice kennels as long as the show has a qualified judge. However, if you do win over novice Kennels or unrecognized Kennels or individuals, you cannot use that champion's record to contribute to a Register of Merit listing. If you are striving for a Grand Championship, your fourth and fifth wins must be, not only over recognized Kennels but kennels or individuals that are long standing and recognized as first class competition. In other words, you can't make Grand Champion by winning over Tom, Dick & Harry's ROVER or Beat All Kennels' PRINCE.

The Journal does NOT sanction judges, nor do we rate kennels or individuals. A sanctioned or recognized judge is someone who has a history of judging shows for established kennels and having them recorded in the Journal. There is no point in writing in and listing all of the people that you know that will vouch for you as someone who understands the rules. A judge must have judged shows over a period of time, not only for regional shows featuring novice kennels, but for well know and reputable kennels as well. Much the same can be said for established or recognized kennels and/or individuals. If, over the years, a kennel has been recorded in the Journal on a fairly regular basis, and in competition with other recognizable kennels, than he certain qualifies as a recognized kennel. The Journal can only go by what is reported to magazine. If you are not reported it doesn't make any difference how long or how many shows you have judged that went unreported, it must be in black and white.

It's funny in a way that before we went to an "A" and "B" section, you just about had to hold a gun to the head of someone you wanted to judge. Now it seems that everyone that has owned a dog for longer than two weeks wants to be a judge.

Do people still strive to send in reports and thus have a record of their illegal activities in this day and age? Isnt it better to forego fame and keep ur business private? As long as those that count know the truth about u and ur dog why put such info out therer in ''black and white''?
