Red River Curley Mill Question

I'm a newbie in the market for my first slatmill, been eyeballing the nearest vintage RRC - Ice Pick Special mill available for sale that is located just under 500 miles away from me [see picture at the bottom of this post]

Seller wants $800 for it (firm), claims the slats and belts are in good/used condition, superficial rust on frame which can be sanded and repainted.

Now I'm old enough to know that I know too little regarding to this hobby/equipment to make any sort of informed decision. Seller claims this mill is for a large sized dog, while I have a Staffy/AmStaff/APBT mutt (60/30/10%) who is 40 lbs at 9 months old, projected to hit no heavier than 45~50 lbs adult weight based on DNA.

If any of you OG's can shed some light on the model in question Red River Curly - Icepick Special as well as the market rate for such a purchase, I'd be much obliged. You would save me a potentially very expensive mistake, and 16 hours of driving.

    Cheerio~

Pass it up in less your mechanical inclined and have time & money to waste. Save up for the cheapest dogtroter they sell.in the meantime handwalk or bike work and condition them pads.

Thanks Ben, great advise! Only wish there are more used Dog Trotters for sale as their cheapest models cost $2,500 before tax.
Been doing hand walk and bike works only the daily as soon my puppy was leash trained, but I'm getting a bit tired myself walking/cycling the 4~5 miles each day :P

You can get on fb and have a very nice mill made and shipped while saving 1k on the dog trotter.

Update* Big thanks to Mr. Brockton's sage advice! I was able to snag a slightly used Dog Trotter in very good condition for just a little more (than the Red Curly) last weekend. My puppy absolutely loves it, the mill runs like a dream~

Finally got a video of my 10 month old puppy on the DogTrotter, it's his 3rd time working out with a slatmill.

Please excuse my excited cheering, for the time-being he needs some motivation and encouragement to keep running...I'm hoping with time and repeated exposure, he can start to run happily on his own.

Your excitement and cheering is what most people do not do.

When you do that as he learns your voice becomes his gas pedal.

With your voice or tone he will putt around like an old grocery getter or when you crank up he will be a top fuel dragster.
