    Hey All,

I am slowly introducing my dogs to agility. We're almost titled out in Weightpulling in the UKC so, on to the next event.

    Anyhow, I have the following:
    jumps
    tire jump
    teeter totter
    box
    table
tunnel (The one w/ a barrel on one end and 'sheet' on the other)

What I am in NEEEEED for is a regular ole' tunnel. I see them on the internet for astronomical prices. Anyone have any they'd want to sell, now how to 'improvise' on making one or a realllllly cheap site?

I don't need it to be regulation length, even a 6-8 footer would get the dogs used to going into a tunnel.

    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

GO to a toy store. My son has a CARS tunnel i picked up for like 5 bucks at Toys r us. its like 5 foot long should work. or if you got alot of time use 50 gallon plastic drums. U can make it as long as you would like.

In UKC, you have to have a hoop tunnel. It is a required obstacle in AGI and AGIII. They look pretty simple to make. Basically it is a pvc frame with hula hoops bungied to it.

Here is a pic of Jaeger going through the hoop tunnel.

That is called at chute or closed tunnel.

You might also want to add a window jump to your collection. They almost always use them in AGI, and new dogs do not like them.

Also if you need help with Agility go to the private forum that we are on and post there. There is also some good articles I wrote about getting started with agility. you need to make weave poles and I have all the instructions listed for you.

HIPPO:Thanks! I will check into that. I was hoping something like that would work

K9: I made a hoop tunnel for my mom (she's like 8 miles away from my house). It was VERY easy to make. Most of the money I spent on making that, was on the hula hoops. You got a pic of a 'window' jump? I have a jump, that may be similar to that. On the bottom half, it's 'solid' (made of plywood) and on the top there is a square, roughly the same size of the plywood. Is that like what you're talking about?

PERFORMANCE: THANKS! I will head over there soon. Also, weave poles aren't in AG1, right? I am only going for my AG1. Well, that's the plan right now:) My mom has weave poles, so I am all set there too!

Sounds like a window jump to me, but most of the ones I have seen are made out of material.
You are correct, there are no weave poles in UAG-I.

REALLY? no weaves? man can the UKC make it any easier to get a title?:(
Once you get your dog trained you should try a real venue like USDAA and NADAC. Sorry for the UKC dis but I guess they want all the fat conformation dogs to get titles too!

lol..........I guess, the UAG1 is 'easy' to get.......After that, it gets much more difficult.

I am hoping, to get some A-frame, dog walk, and teeter work.(which I have, but, it seems to be difficult) I have not had any work on the A frame or dog walk. I am guessing the dog walk is the easiest of the 3 (teeter, A frame, and dogwalk) Am I right?

Performance: You ever do CPE events? That is something my mom does (along w/ ukc) in agility w/ her great dane. There is video at youtube, just type in andrewadampeabody if you'd like to see a dane doing agility!!!!

No I have my hands full with NADAC and USDAA. I have spent a fortune on NADAC the last few years to get Vixen's NATCH. Plus there is some personal reasons behind me not doing CPE, but that gets political with the creators of that venue. UKC does get harder but no too much as you move through the levels. Hey if you are doing it to have fun it doesn't matter what venue you do, just have fun. I am more competitive so I have a different path for my dogs.
Contacts are the most reason many dogs do not qualify. If your dog is going to have any speed behind them you need a stop on the contacts.
Check out my agility videos on youtube customk9performance you will see what I am talking about. i will check out the Dane video. ;)

It always amazes me to see a Dane do a tunnel. I have a Dane in one of my classes now and he is the largest dog I have ever seen do a tunnel!;)
Great video I take it the one I watched was gamblers.

yep, I think gamblers is right...........It was a cpe event. Right now they're at some ukc event, i ohio or something.

I am VERY competitive w/ weightpull. Agility, I am doing just for something else and something for fun. It's going to be hard to keep our agility skills fresh in Michigan (november-april/march, are snow covered) I hope to get our title, on August 22 and then focus more on weightpulling (as we've always done) either way, they're having fun w/ it and I have made EVERYTHING so far all by myself. Not too bad for someone who is not that handy:) I am going to check out your videos, right now:)

Okedoke, I see what ya mean........Vixen looks to be greeeeeeeeeat at agility.

Typhoon, is new, right? Poor guy ran into that mirror at pracitce w/ the Dane. That looks like a TINNNNNY room to practice agility. Your Typhoon, must not bee DA at all. I'd need more of a buffer zone for my boys/girl.

    Nice vids!

UKC is not as easy as you think. They are more about precision than speed. I know many dogs that run USDAA, NADAC, or AKC that can't qualify in UKC. Most of the venues are about speed and not "safety".
In UKC the dog is required to enter and exit all contact obstacles, straight with all four feet. They also have several different obstacles including: the hoop tunel, window jump, pause box, platform jump, swing plank, sway bridge, crawl tunnel, and spring weave poles. They also have a 2-6 foot handler restriction on all control obstacles and weave poles.

K9: I noticed that, when I was at a trial watching my mother's Dane.

On one side, a UKC event. On the other side, a CPE event.

UKC is definitely more about precision, I would agree. Those CPE dogs are hauling serious a$$, that is for sure.

As of now, my doggies are going slow and steady, which is great. LIke I said, AG1 title, is what i'm shooting for. I"ll have 4 tries (8-22 and 8-23) hopefully 3 of them can be 170 or higher!!

    Thanks for all your input!

    Andrew

PS:What's a 'platform' jump? I've not seen that in AG1.

It doesn't come up until AGII, and is another control obstacle. Basically, it looks sort of like a pause table/jump/pause table. The dog has to jump on one table, sit, jump over the jump onto the other table, and sit.

That is only Typhoon's 4th class in agility. It is an agility prep class and the other dogs are mostly on leash. Typhoon is more advanced because I work her more and she did contact work when she was a pup. I emailed the agility director because the teacher had the jumps in line with the mirrors. Typhoon thought she saw another jump in the mirror so we sent an email out to tell everyone to stager the jumps with the mirror.

Thank you for the compliments on Vixen she is my golden child ;) i love that silly dog. BTW did you see this thread?

Ultimate K9 I know what you are saying but I guess I do not like the collection part of the UKC, It's almost like heel, jump, heel, jump. I like to see a dog move with speed and proficiency. But I cannot take aways from the hard work it take to get the highest title. I will do my first UKC agility in July in Co if everything works out. maybe it will change my mind.
