Biggest I ever shot was a 9 point I took in rifle a few years ago. I don't eat antlers therfore I don't trophy hunt. If it has 3 tines on one side, it's getting shot.

I'm in it for the backstraps, steaks, jerky and the dog food. Lol.

Was getting out all my gear for next week and took out a few of my tools of the trade. These are my quick grab and go to guns that I keep easy access too. All have their own particular purpose. I'll take a pic of the rest tomorrow.

The compound bow is a Hoyt Charger. Strictly deer or target.

I have my squirrel and bird gun, that I also do target with an
Ithaca 12ga. Semiautomatic shotgun with a tru glo front sight.

My strickly deer guns are a
Winchester 30.06 cal. with a Leopold scope and a Ruger M77 2.70 cal. with a Tasco Silver Creek Scope.

Personal defense, my everyday carry and target is a Ruger SR9c 9mm semiautomatic pistol.

Time to go to war or engage multiple attackers, I have my Springfield Armory Saint Victor 5.56/.223 cal. AR15 Pistol with Crossfire red dot scope, Raptor spring up 45° iron sights and a laser beam for good measure. I swing around corners seamlessly with this bitch and she is highly accurate.

    Something for all occasions.

its impossible to properly aim at a moving target with it, i cant hold the arrow pulled back for more than a handfull of seconds so hitting stationary targets is only really doable thing.
its painful even with gloves on

  5. Im intrested in these big old bows.i to am amazed how the old school people shot them.
Euro you say you find it impossible to shoot moving.but can you shoot it if your standing still?.maybe be easyier if your standing still?not so bad for war-fear if your built like herculese and you had no acces to modernday fire arms..not so good for hunting your dinner though lol.

AGK i made beef jerky last week in the woods!my faild attempt at cooking a steak over a camp fire resulted in jerky man.no salt man.just smoke and weather lol.
deer jerky sounds good.do you put anything like a rub or anything on it?how long dose it take you mate?took me a while but if ide of put salt on it i think it would of speeded up the prosess.

The light things are a great idea.love the survivel stuff man.really intresting.

  6. On the subject of survivl my wax for clothing project aint going so well.ive just made a mix of beeswax linseed what i boied my self and stolkholm pine tar.the rusult is a tradisinol oil skin look to the fabric and hugley waterproof.the bad parts are it stinks to high heaven(its actully giving of a toxic vapour)and its hugley flammerble and combuterbl.
    wooosh its badly flammerble lol.
back to the drawing board and start again.
im a few hundred quid down in varoius waxes and oils.

There's a few ways to go about making it. I don't have a dehydrator so I use my oven. Deer jerky is probably my favorite kind of jerky.

All I do is, 24 hours before I'm going to make it I cut the part I'm using of the deer for jerky into 1/ 2" to 1/4" strips. I marinate it for a day in a mix of Soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce and liquid smoke, salt, pepper and garlic. Let it marinate overnight in the refrigerator. Set oven to 220°. I use the 2 shelves in the oven to drape the strips over so they are hanging in half in a U shape hanging down. I previously cover the bottom of my oven with foil or you'll have one hell of a mess to clean when done.
Anyways, I cook it with the oven door cracked about 1 to 2 inches while it's drying out. Takes about 4 to 6 hours in the oven.

You will see these things lit up in the woods for a pretty far distance.

  9. Wow...i never new you could make it in a oven.is that 220○ of heat or is it the fan on the oven or something?
im a little confused,my oven only goes as high as 240○...wont these heats just cook the meat?oven baked meat sort of thing?

As to wax thing i think i aint boiled my linseed oil correctly.
apareantly even one once ;that is a mear thirty ml of oil takes a hole hour to boil on a high temp.then ,it needs to be left in the air for the same time period...so even a small amount takes a long time to boil natuely..

ive lowerd the amount of linseed oil and pine tar to a very very very small amount and boiled the linseed oil to death..
the mix before was 80% beeswax,15% linseed oil( that ide hardly boiled),5% pine tar.
the mix now is 90% beeswax,5% linseed oil(thats boiled to death)5% pine tar.once it was all mixed together i cook it high for about fifteen minuets.

I amazed that this historic traditinol mix has ever worked with out setting anyone on fire.

    220 Fahrenheit.
    Be 104 Celsius.

You keep the oven door cracked so the meat don't cook it just dries out.

  11. ive had to lower the content of linseed and pine tar yet again.down to 2.5% each.
i may well have cracked it.

The result is the same as the yellow beeswax but slightly darker with a slight hint of pine.that takes better to the fabric then just pure beeswax.
i will try the fire test and waterproof test in a hour or so then ill report back.
we could sell this AGK.put Otterwax out of buissnes lol.

  12. Mixing the pine tar directly to the linseed oil after cooking and leaving it to air out also seems to have speeded up the drying time of the linseed.

I'd rather do it in a dehydrator but I always forget to get one until I need one lol. Easier to clean up after. Plus I hate running my stove all day. Gas aint cheap lol.

I do the bulk of the deer in jerky. I take the steak meat, ribs and back straps. The rest is jerky. Whats left is dog food. Use everything but the hide. If I had a place to dry it out I'd use that too but I don't so it gets pitched.

    The rest of my stock.

    Horton Summit 150 Crossbow.

Remminton 760 game master 30.06 cal. Pump action with a Redfield 4x12 scope.

Remington 870 express 12ga pump action Shotgun.

Heritage arms .22 cal. Old colt 45 replica.

I actually use that .22 cal to squirrel hunt from time to time. Fun little gun to shoot. Feel like a cowboy when I got it strapped to my tactical belt. Lol.

I did have a nice hand carved recurve bow but when I asked my pops where I put it he says I sold it like 15 years ago because I never used it. Lol memory is shot because I don't remember that at all or even who I would have sold it too. Lol.

Always wanted to try a bow but at my age the eyes aren’t what they used to be.
Now days I just grab the old Remington 7mm and hit the woods.
It’s a bit of over kill especially for these anorexic Alabama deer, but I don’t have to do much tracking with a well placed shot.
Used to do a lot of coon hunting just not interested in stumbling around in the dark for miles trying to keep up with the dogs anymore.
Deer, rabbit and occasionally squirrel and pheasant are basically what I prefer now.

Been working the the last couple days after work on setting up my area. Making mock scrapes and laying buck urine in an area. I plan on being just outside of it facing in. I'll get picks today when we get out there a little later.

This was yesterday. That's a obvious trail with tracks. I set up the area about 80 yards from this trail. It basically leads right into a kill box I'm been setting up.

    20200929_121928.jpg

    Area it leads into

Probably set my daughter up on the opposite corner from me.

I haven't slept right since this past Saturday. Feel like a kid on Xmas eve. Weird, after all these years I still get so excited the week before hunting season starts. I only really shoot a Buck every 2 to years so I'm about due. Last deer I shot was this guy 3 years ago.

Collapsed this little 6 point at 18 yards with a 30.06 cal. 168 grain hollowpoint through both lungs. My daughter was supposed to take the shot but she froze up on him. I didn't. He caught our sent. Perked up and was about to bolt so I let him have it. He buckled.

I'm hoping this is her year to get her own deer. Lol
