I wouldn't take the chance breeding to a cur when there are so many proven, producing studs out there, too risky especially basing a yard off it.

 

Maybe for 2 or 3, or maybe even 4 generations , but ALL pedigrees have "skeletons in the closet"..

 

Some of em got whole grave yards.....lmao

 

Again not knocking production records... just asking if YOU would breed to a six minute cur...

Forget the name is Mayfield's Nigger... lets pretend its Bob's Brown Dog... but he's bred out the ass and stops in 6 minutes... would you breed to that dog not knowing what he would produce.

As someone already said Mayfield had an eye for dogs His judgement in breeding to Nigger paid off in more ways than one. At that time [also like someone else said] I may have taken the chance the dog climate was very different to how it is now.

Nowadays you cant afford to take those chances. best to best regardless of paper for me whichever sport you choose to go with your dogs. [paper helps but its not the be all and end all]

 

I don't give a damn how he bred.... i would find one bred the same that was wreckin shit (or bred as close as I could find). and bace my yard off that. With that said I'm no Mayfield either.

Those that cull often dont have a clue,many a good dog never made it because of such.
The are plenty of old stories about the "shouldn't have"

Far more Cur owners then cur dogs these days IMO.
The last 20 years has never been about the dogs,like everything else in the world today thats gone to sh!t.

Just because you have a few bucks a yard and a few feet of chain does not entitle you to own an APBT and "play" dog man.:mad:

I think that back in those days the competition level wasn't as high as present day. They also had huge yards to experiment with, able to hold 30-60 dogs. So for DM to do a breeding like that and keep the whole litter and cull them hard, it really wasn"t uncommon. Now adays there are so many good dogs and so many small yards, you don't have to take big risks when you can just make a call and get a stud fee off of a top performer and producer. I personally would not have done the breeding, but in truth, many of the most popular working lines have come off of ranked curs, cold dogs, and untouched dogs. So, i guess DM just knew his dogs good enough to make a breeding like that work.
