Breeding to a well bred cur?

now people if we take out the equation that it was Nigger who quit??
infact take Nigger out of the equation all together.
maybe some did not read into my first post's as well i thought they might.
and to factor in schooling is wrong, if you get 8 out of 10 in your maths test today, you are not kept out of the class room tomorrow.
i still wouldnt make an on spot decission. id be looking again, then come to a conclusion.
the way i see how everyone has answered is that you all would just make a decission on a dog based on just one look. that being a 6min. roll, and to tell the truth if the time i looked at a dog and he was an absolute killer in 6 mins. my answer would be No..

 

Bumping this cause it was a great thread and showed my opinion on breeding to a known cur.

 

well idk if the dog was a cur or not. Hear different things fromn different people.
Generally speaking i 6 minutes wouldnt cut it for me. I know you want a complete bulldog but gameness is still the most important characteristic. Everyone has different qualifications on their yard and a 6 minute dog would make the cut on mine. hey better be damned smart and pray they make it as a house pet lol

 

sorry, i just do not believe that stuff about nigger.mayfield, gilman,burton etc were at the very core of the game and had their pick of dogs yet chose nigger to base their stuff on.it don't make sense.burton reckoned don maloney started the rumour of him quitting and it was baloney, this was many years later and he had no reason to lie as he had dogs from several bloodlines by then.nigger sure did produce his share of game , talented dogs too.

 

IDK if he was a cur or not but he sure did get passed around a lot? i believe he was one of the last dogs off tudor's yard & bred out the ass. so i think that had a lot to do with it. it was no big deal to take chance on breeding to a questionable dog back then because it wasn't uncommon to have 100 dogs on the yard. if he was game then surely he was worth a bet or two just like most game dogs. a lot of questionable dogs were/are matched. even a lot of losers were matched as well as plugs so what made nigger any different?

 

IDK, I'd have to know the dog personal like. It would have to be MY dog... not just a stud that i'm looking at.

 

Why risk breedin to a cur in hopes of gettin a couple exceptions? :confused:

 

Maybe the cur raced for 3 1/2 hrs and quit. You wouldn't breed to that cur if his ped was golden?

 

3/12 hrs and 6min is a hell of a difference,if i had the time and space,sure why not.Nowadays i wouldnt even bother

 

3 1/2 isnt a cur imo. MAYBE if it jumps. The whole a cur is a cur thing is played out as far as im concerned. And if anyone has any 3 1/2 hour curs that arent worth breeding give me a call lol we can work something out:p

didn't they understand that dogs have limits?

I believe it was Randy Fox who said he saw Nigger quit in nine minutes!!! then retracted it. The words cur,picked up game and gameness are to often banded around .

 

First off it was as said Maloney who started that rumor about Tudor's Nigger (he was bred by Tudor not Mayfield). Later on Randy Fox began spreading that rumor and "adding" his own style to the story. Unfortunately Randy's style seems to change with the seasons and finally he published one of the versions of his "story" on his website the day after Mayfield died. Funny how Randy never said one word to any of us or Don when he was in chat though :cool:

Now about Nigger as a producer. In his first breeding he sired a very good litter of winning dogs, one of which was Tiger Dan 2x who later sired Pit General. Later on he went on to produce other great dogs such as Alligator, Sampson and.... Ch Fox' Crazy (yes Randy had dogs off of Nigger too!) among others.

So by the time that Mayfield got the dog he was already a proven producer of good dogs.

About quitting during schooling that is the most ridiculous lie I have heard about Nigger yet. Nigger was used to roll into Tiger Dan to test Dan's gameness. He was already schooled out by Tudor long before that and had lost all his teeth. Only a newbie who knows nothing about these dogs would fall for such a lie as that.

I think it's very funny to see how every year the stories about Nigger change and become worse. Maloney and Randy did a great job brainwashing people about that dog. BUT, the only way to prove it back then was to SHOW it, which Mayfield did when he won with a son of Nigger over Maloney in a match by request of Tudor for the rumors Maloney had been spreading because of his jealousy and envy.

Every good proven dog carries with it a number of different stories about that dog, some good and some bad. It's up to a person to research and find which of those stories (if any) are true. And in the end the best thing to do is to ignore all the stories told by others and go by ones own knowledge and a dogs record. Based on that I would breed to Nigger without a second thought.

WD: well we need to come up with some new terms then dont we?

 

my personal opinion are in these days lots of breeders are breeding dogs with fake titles,bred curs dogs and make money with them and we have somany dogs with fake papers that you never know what you really bred.

 

nice read Gringo it's pretty funny Randy Fox told that Nigger was a cur and have dog off him it's like Mike Williams who's told to all that Frisco was a cur and bred him with his females when Frisco was on his yard

 

i my self wouldnt have took a chance on a 106 min cur but then again thats just me and maybe one of my own short commings cuz he did put out some good dogs

 

if it weren't for curs we all wouldn't have dogs today:p:p
