I believe Tombstone was schooled on the east coast by the petronellis. They were well known for developing and shaping a dogs style and building it's confidence.

Ok I am making this post because there has been a lot of lies about mayfield in this thread some particular people chose to talk bullshit and make up lies without proof. Well instead of spewing 3rd hand info like these idiots I contacted someone who was actually at the pool hall red vs easy match and who knew both don mayfield and irish jerry. He gave me permission to post what he said here. So here it is.

Irish Jerry had some good dogs and was a good conditioner etc. But if he thought you were a green horn. Saw no problem in taking advantage of you.

When we matched into him with the Hank dog. I was the corner man and did the washing and weighing. V. Jackson had not slept in 24 hours due to a unexpected Military duty watch before heading out to Georgia.
First Jerry tried to let the Hank dog hang long as possible on the scales. Called him on that. Then in the wash he tried to let me put Hank into a tub of scalding water. Caught him on that. Next with his dog in the wash, tried to take him to the pit without rinsing off the soap wash. He was a real ass that night.

During the match, they cut off the lights. I had a large lantern light and kept it on the dogs. He was going try something then.
On the last scratch of his dying dog. He walked out with his dog down side the pit calling it to the HANK DOG.
The referee allowed him a 30 second scratch. Did them no good, Hank killed that dog broke both shoulders and back legs. The sorry referee got sick and threw up. Was the only way we could have won that night was to kill his dog fast. Who knows what his next trick may have been.

After it was over he had so much brass he acted like nothing happened. Took a hell of a deep game dog and dumped it on the cold concrete for all to see flop around like a fish out of water. That dog never made a whimper and was a very good dog itself. Believe it was a Bullyson x Art's Missy or Weehunt bred dog.
Sharon and Raymond Holt saw it laying on the concrete. Sharon ran and got James Crenshaw. James found Jerry and chewed his ass out. Jerry took the dog out back and put it out of it's misery and buried it.

Stalled out V.J.'s bitch about two seconds or so. His dog did not make the ten second scratch in time. They were using their referee and no foul was allowed or a draw. Doubt Pool Hall could have made the next scratch. She did not cur but was hurt real bad as well.
Was only four of us in the backwoods of Georgia with a whole lot of them. Can be like that sometimes.

I was at the Mayfield Easy x Jerry's Pool Hall Red match. Neither dog was rubbed. Pool Hall just had to much dog on her and Don had the much better conditioned dog. Even still Jerry tried to cheat. Kept trying to handle Pool Hall while in holds. Trying to get her back on top.
Mayfield finally reached down and picked both dogs over his head. Asked Jerry how high did he want to snatch them. Mayfield was tall as most Basket Ball players and Jerry was a short fellow. Was very comical to watch.

Later a new member of underdog kennels was part of a deal keystone made with his dogs. they got about16 ore 20 dogs. and they lookt at the whole lot in one go!!. 1 out of them lookt desend al the others quit in less then 15/20 min. how do i know wel one of those guys was my naighber!!. He also told me he QUIT underdog kennels team when he heard a rumore about the gabber dog being stolen. when he askt his kennel member up frond he confirmed he did. This was the rezen for this man to get out of that kennel. He also told me that Keystome actualy PAID UP FRONT to steal the dog . So he was lying when he came clean . got away with a free breeding.
and so far so every single pure bred dog from his hands rank cured out in no time.
