  1. I'd say no.. U may get a freak of nature and get a black nosed pup if the the dam or sire was a fluk off of black nosed parents. But in "normal genetics" no. The red is a recessive gene and can throw health defects if bred to tightly. I bred a red rednosed male to a buckskin rednosed female and every pup was red rednosed.... If you want color breed your rednose to a fawn blk nose or buckskin blk nose..just my opinion...

Why are people getting confused there have been several great posts explaining the colour genes!

Since one else here is more of authority then me, :)
that is what a true OFRN color of a red nose dog!
Dark ruby red like a liver, or copper color like a penny.
You breed that dog and that dog only, to a female with same color nose you never get a black nose pup........

There is no freak of nature. It has already been said but I will say it again, if mutation occurs the pup will be born dead or die soon after birth.......

Liver is red nose! ITS NOT BLACK!

Chocolate Red Nose? Is that a BYB term?
Is it something that the Pepsi Generation OFRN breeders have came up with?
These are American Game Dogs, not Poodles.....what's next Apricot Nose?:dogstare:
  7. just giving an opinion no need to get upset....seen some "freaks of nature" happen in other breeds...danes, am.bulldogs etc..never said it'd survive

What most don't realize is Maud was bred to Ch. Iron Spike R.O.M. in those pictures.
When that picture was taken Maud was farther into gestation to whelp.
Her hormones were close for preparation to whelp.

Looking at her pictures and by the what people call chocolate red nose, what color is she?
She is the true color of the OFRN as was the picture of the red & white male pictured above.

    qjp123 Pup

:dogkiss:im pretty shure that they won't produce a black nose being that both parents are red nose so i have to say no.

UMMM RED??? lol. I think many forget that red comes in a variety of shades from light to the darker liver shades.
Why don't you confuse them even more Knightmare and talk about the color of the toenails as well!!!

When the absent of black nose in both the sire and the dam it is genetically impossible.
Black nose is not a recessive gene. Red Nose gene is.
  20. ABK

    ABK Rest In Peace

You CAN get a black & or blacknosed dogs out of two rednosed parents. Here is how:

"For example we take the colour situation that results from crossing two non-black breeds like the Irish Setter & the Irish Water Spaniel, we would obtain solid black dogs in each case. This may come as a surprise to anyone who practices this mating, intentionally or otherwise, but arises from the following colour situation:

    Irish Setter (golden chestnut) AABBCCDDeeggmmSStt
    Irish Water Spaniel (liver) AAbbCCDDEEggmmSStt
    Offpsring: (black) AABbCCDDEeggmmSStt

It can be seen that the two breed are solid coloured (AA) & differ only in that one is unable to produce black pigment because it has the ee combination while the other is unable to produce black pigment because it has the bb combination. All other genes in the two breeds are identical & are thus unaffected by the crossing. But in the B/E loci the combinations become Bb & Ee & thus black is now formed." - Malcom B. Willis, Genetics of the Dog

Now I will say this - if both parents are RED rednosed, then no, you cannot get black or blacknosed pups. But if one is red/rednosed & the other parent is chocolate/rednosed, then YES it is a possibility for black or blacknosed pups. That is how Valproboy & Rojoa's Negra was produced.

    Hope this helps.
