AS A BREED, APBTs DO have too many skin problems! You should not have to feed a dog a special diet and supplements for them to be healthy and skin-problem free!

Ultimately, the problem goes back to BREEDING DOGS WITH SKIN PROBLEMS!

And skin problems CAN be so bad and make the dog so miserable, the dog needs to be put down.

I think some breeders have looked at skin problems as not so important in the bigger scheme of things, BUT skin problems have made thousands of these dogs have miserable lives.

unfortunatly, in breeding high performance pit bulls in the past the selection was brought douwn to performance only both mental and fisical .
many a dog from the past did not live to grow old!!. And not being kept as house pets living long enoughf for lots of problems to come out,
and being inbred ""way"" behound comprehention of what modern genetics would alouw ather animals to be bred.
have broght some skin AND auto imume system problems with some of these dogs.
most of us who are deeper into these dogs hase seen ore known ore owend dogs that where deteriated up to a point where they where skin and bones had open wounds on there legs ore hips and had no real coat left!!! DISPITE how good they where fed.

al this is a resuld of the way our dogs have been inbred and kept in the past.inferior dogs that should have been culled where cept alive because of there superior pedegree and where still bred of due to there breeding.. these typ of bad genetic out comes where responsible for geneticel skin ore auto imume system problems in dogs.
it ofthen rizes to the sirfis when dogs are kept on the chain and ore are kenneld up for years and being OUT of shape!!!.
kennel stress and lack of condition sets it of. and the way to recuvery with modern medication is a long one!! ..( Any body ever saw the movie ENZO,s OIL!!!!. if not i sirguest you do!!)

Fortunate most Younger dogs dont suffer from these defects as they stil have there auto imume system working for them, BUT thepending on how wel they are taken care of and ore what there diet is , wil triger it of.if its genetic presend...
Ofthen its just a little lack of the dogs system not being able to proses sirtin nutrition like to many protien and a lack of amino acids and ore other nutritiond not availeble for the dogs sytem to work.(remeber to chek the movie Enzo,s Oil)

It also ocurs mutch les witch battle/outcross dogs. when it comes douwn to Suplemends they should NOT be given if there is NO problem.
they should be given when a dog is clearly sufering from visible problems and ore when a dog gets in training...
I think its safe to say that 85/90% of the population of our dogs today are as healthy and sound as can be , and its bij far the strongest dog breed in the world,
"" There is nothing another dog can do ore a pitbull terrier can do it beter"" used to be the fraze atachst to our breed,
Unfortunatly many and i mean MANY a modern dogman thusend know what the hell he thuse when breeding these dogs90% of them fal into the pure trap, they start inbreeding like imidiatly and if you askt them why they inbreed and on what they have no clue what they are doing.. anyway im wondering off again im sorry.. il stop befor i make a fool of myself hahahhahaha.

I think it does all go back to issues with the immune system -- allergies, staph infections, demodectic mange -- can all be traced to an immune system which is compromised in some way. And from what I've read, the immune system (which is very complex and made up of many interrelated parts, which when ONE goes awry, it all goes wrong!) are one of the first things that suffer with continued, consistent severe inbreeding. Apparently, nature DOES like some diversity to work with!

    just a thought Bully UK
I have seen on several occasions vets misdiagnose harevst mites as allergies, mostly city vets
harvest mites occur at certain times of the year in certain types of grass
they live between the toes of the dog and are tiny red or orange dots
a dog will lick wounds on his paws and legs because of them
Frontline Spray sprayed between the toes is the best way to kill harvest mites
normal spot drops on the neck do not work against harvest mites

worth considering if your dog has a reoccurance of the problem next year

Red Rum dog Thats ok you being from the usa its a bit costly,BUT remember we europeans buy and bought stuff from the usa, not trying to be rude here , but we dont care what it costs it can be a small investmend in your dogs health and that to me is priceless!!!!..
Its like when people are going to build a new engine for there car. they invest thousends of dollars, and ofthen try to skim the more ecspensif parts and dont whant to spend to mutch money on proper oil, and buy cheap stuf. there is never money to do it right the first time but there always seems to be money the second time when they are in for a second rebuild!!!!! when that new engine turnt to pieces...
Belive me that stuf is worth its weight in gold!!!.. it wil save lots of vet costs..

Ask your vet about a good well balanced raw diet, can work wonders on dogs with skin allergies and issues.
I strongly believe in using Braggs Red apple cider vinegar, a couple of teaspoons in their water bucket and I use some also very diluted with water over their food. Can also use a 50/50 water/vinegar spray on the dogs coat and rub it in (no smell when it drys) and leaves coat very soft.
I use K-9 Advantix II topical flea, tick, mosquito and fly solution once a month year round.
Lots of info. on raw diets, red apple vinegar online, do some research.

  16. Thanks alot E-Dog will be trying this .

The skin on your dog looks exactly like mine, and your description is also exact my pit is 1 yr old and has been having this problem about 6 months now...I taken her to vet few times was put on steroid pee all over the place... and she got better for awhile then came back back to the vet this time gave us antibiotic and topical oitments. She still scratching intensly. I would like to know if you ever figure out what the problem was?

Try fish oil pills, and bully max, my dog had a patch of missing hair on his back and i fed him 2 fish oil pills everday, and two bully max tablets. It hellped him in a month, also try nutsock if it is very severe. Nustock works in days. And it is safe and effective.
