Theres lots of things you can use for pulling. Rope and old car/truck tire for example. I walk my dog all the time with my friends 2 year old boy in his little red wagon attached to my dog with a custom made handle I welded up to attached to the harness. Probably around 50lbs of weight but on dirt trails with hills its plenty. One thing I noticed if your dogs pulling a little boy in a wagon everyone you walk buy says oh is that ever neat or cute, have your dog dragging a chain around and there calling the humane society on you. But weight is weight just looks ALOT different to the general public. In the winter here there's snow so I do the same thing with a sleigh. The little boy has a blast my dog gets a good working and everyone smiles at you.

If you can get your hands on some old window weights, those are awesome

A lot of people i know use window weights. i use a harness and one of those wagon carts from Tractor Supply with some creek rock in it, or i simply use weights. Got a buddy building sleds right now though, so i will prob convert to one of those.

I use to do the same thing but my rig was made out of PVC pipe so the harness could be attached

You could improvise and use plastic bottles full of water or sand to start with.
