It's junk if you're looking for a bulldog. It's OK if you're looking for a pet & are willing to put up w/ the possibility of health defects.

    Y health defects???

Watchdog has become known for health problems, particularly cardiac issues if I'm not mistaken. If Chaos is down from Watchdog, and there aren't a whole slew of Chaos dogs being screened for defects, I'd be wary. You can search the OFA database if you're curious.

Old school watchdog isnt the same as the more recent stuff. Health defects came from breeding for size and color, hence the skin problems and hip, heart problems etc with them. The old school watchdog that stayed in working hands is still ok. It is not my favorite, but it isnt the junk that some of the watchdog is. For example, I have two watchdog females on my yard which are 2 yrs of age, and weigh one 32#'s and the other is 36#'s. both are black reverse brindle in color, and have the drive of a mack truck. No health issues, no skin problems.
So there is a difference between old school and new school. Any further than that, I cannot tell you.
I have an aquantance of mine who has some dogs off the Chaos yard, and the ones off the yard are okay. The way he bred them though, has dimenished the line IMO, as 3 gen. down the line they are fat blue and lazy.

A good dog is where you find it. Look the parents over good, and grand parents, and make an educated decision. What are you wanting out of the dog? And go from there.

Things such as the following has been found in Chaos dogs:

    Allergies (one to grass!)
Auto-immune disorders (i.e. mange & other skin defects)
    Cancer
Defects of the mouth or teeth
    Heart valve abnormalities
    Luxating Patellas
    Hip dysplasia

And this is but an incomplete list.

Most of these defects come down off a dog called Blue Sky Prince, a dog who figures promionently in Chaos pedigrees.

As pig said, the old school WD from breeders who have kept it true to form is OK. But the new school WD has been bred for size & color & as a result, health is suffering.

In fact, most new school WD (& most Chaos blood) is based on WD's Beezlebub AKA Blue Bubba, who himself was put down due to cancer at age 7.

I myself had a double bred granddaughter to WD's Blu Glory, another dog found in most Chaos peds & we had to put her down due to cancer at age 6.

    Hope this helps.

Mmmmeeeeh... I don't know where the line gets drawn, but if its the same Chaos Kennels that I've seen ads for (in Illinois), I think it might be a safe assumption that we're not talking about old-school Watchdog anymore. And an AmStaff/APBT breeder whom I greatly respect (RIP, Lora) got a foundation female from that blood who ended up with all kinds of problems. Her dogs were all standard, not overdone fad monstrosities. Sooo... I don't know. Gimme clear health screenings on the parents of any dog I buy, so there's no question either way. :)

IMO Chaos is not old school.

And I remember Lora. I didn't know her real well but when she & I spoke she was always a decent & honest person. I can't remember her dog's name - Blue Liberty I think? Anyway, it did have tons of problems. I think she ended up putting the dog down due to cancer too.

Back when Casey had the dogs they we're pretty much an OK line. But now that Chaos has it, it's pretty well gone down the toilet. Further, CK knows there are defects in the line, but doesn't care.

I heard Ken Soderland got most of the old Big Thor stuff. I heard that is some good blood, but I don't think he sells any more.

Now my blue dog comes off of Chaos, Turpin, Falin, Hughzee and has Watchdog's Beelzebub in his 5th as well as Thor in his ped. On his Top his bottom is a little scatterbred. I am not going to breed him. But plan on getting him in weight pulling.

Now he is not fat and lazy he weighs 64pds but he does have allergies. And they are contact allergies. His hips and knees and elbows were ok at 6 mon and 1 yr. I am checking them again at 2yrs. He did not have mange. But he did have a non cancerous growth removed on his paw. Now as far as general health he is good. Thyroid, heart is good. But he is only 1 1/2 yrs. So because it is in his line I will have to get bloodwork every yr. Thank God I work for a Vet.

And as well as one behavioral incident. That is resolving with a trainer and behaviorist. And I got a lot of crap about it on here. I chose to try and work it out before writing him off and jumping to putting him down. It is going really good and he so far has not displayed any signs of previous behavior. But I am always on top of it. I appreciate all the advice I got though. I am glad that I did get some support on here which is why I joined. There are always a few that jumped on the opportunity to be negative. But over all I got the advice that I needed.

He is somewhat of a rescue he was my friends dog and he could not afford to take care of him when he got sick as a pup. That’s how I acquired him. And working at a Veterinary Hospital the cost to me was very minimal to treat him.

And what is funny is I saw a man at the park with a dog that is Chaos (so he said) that was 80pds at 11 months and was HA. Now I do not know if that is because the man said he did not socialize him or it is genetic. I chatted with him for a couple of minutes.

That is the extent of knowledge that I have on that line. Here is Mike's Ped If you want to look back on that line. <a href="http://www.apbt.online-pedigrees.com/public/printPedigree.php?dog_id=240759">

From what I have learned on here as well as talking to other people that you should not get a dog just for color. And research, research, research.

Yeah, she was something else. I had the pleasure of meeting her in real life only once, unforunately. I haven't seen anybody set the bar as high as she did for her own dogs. She was one of the few that I'd narrowed it down to when I was breeder-searching many years ago. Her site is still up, and I think this might be the dog in question: http://www.hartagold.com/freedom.htm

Cynthia: You're not the only one who has a Choas dog w/ contact allergies. I knew one who had a contact allergy to grass. The poor thing couldn't even lay in the grass w/o breaking out in hives. :(

I have heard of HA in Chaos dogs before but from what I understand it is due to lack of socialization. I've not seen CK's facilites, but someone I knew has & says the pups are just kept out in kennels & get minimum contact.

Also, your link on Mike's ped doesn't work.

Baha: Yea, Lora held the bar very high. Sometimes it is still hard for me to believe she is gone. :(

My dog did not come from Chaos kennels. But is off that line. I did meet my dogs mother and she was friendly (then again she was not off Chaos line). Did not meet my dogs father and I am sorry to report that Pit Fall Kennel bought him. But My dog is not off Pit Falls breeding. Thank God!!!!!! The breeder is a college student here in the Atlanta area. I met him when Jermaine (my friend) gave me the paperwork for Mike. He forgot to sign the ADBA paperwork so I had to meet up with him.

I will try to post the link again.

Not sure why it isn't working. But you can cut and paste it and it does.
