sorry if this has been answerd but i wanna know is cod liver oil good or is Omega 3 6 &9 sprint oil better for my 15 month old boy and why does everyone say sience diet and eukanuba are bad food when more than %90 of vets in australia swear by it....

The main reason, and I know this from experience, that Vets use Eukanuba and Science Diet is because those are the two main companies besides Royal Canin that offer specific "prescription" diets for dogs and cats with certain nutritional needs, so of course the Dr's will endorse the brands. We never offered general diet formulations, it was strictly prescription diets that we carried. As far as "general" formulations of dog food go, I personally do not care for either of those brands.

cod liver oil has too much vitamin a%d in it and will damage the liver of your dog. stay away from cod livere oil. use a different oil for your omega vitamins your looking for

Cod liver oil is VERY good!. used it for years, til we found someting beter. cod liver oil indeed containes to mutch, hensh you should give small amounds!!!. its that simpel.
Cod liver oil hase its origin and use from pre 60,s when plenty of people and kids had a lack of nutrition. resulting in kids being born with open wounds when born, like open back and open lips and palets. and bad eye sight. it was mostly given to pregnand woman and in the WINTER time. because it contains vitamins witch the body only ubsorb in nrs in summer time!!! these vitamins NEED sun light for the body to ubsorb them(so i heard).
the lack of ,due to ill nutrition was given during the winter when there is a lack of sun light. hensh it is stackt full of consentraighted vita(mainly A/E/D i belive) later studies also proved that the open wounds on newly born babys was cause due to a lack of jodium, witch today is put in sault. hens we dont see these awful problems in western countrys anymore......

i dont know man there are people on here that know more than me, but the fact is that cod liver oil %of vitamin A and D way more than the average Adult needs. like limey said cod liver oil was used for rickets and to supplement a pregnant woman during the time of pregnancy. it is still a good supplement to give to a child a couple times out the week. it is used in illnesses and to treat illnesses. a dog though and i noticed the toxicity of it because i was giving it every day and my dog was not able to tolerate the high dosage of the vitamin D in clod liver oil and he developed diarrhea and i was giving only a cap full not even a tbsp as recommended. diarrhea is one of the signs that are to be noticed in toxic levels of vitamin D when using liver oil. if your feeding kibble why add more vitamins when kibble is already loaded with vitamins? there is no need to add more A and D when at that it is already at toxic levels for a healthy adult. there is just better oils that dont have A and D or any other vitamins in them that i give. Even if you feed raw 3-4 1/2muti-vitamins is all you need to give the dog on a weekly basis with a good meal to cover all the mineral needs. you just dont need the extra large dosages of A and D in a dogs diet IMO. Fish oil, olive oil, germ oil etc. would be better to use than cod liver oil again IMO.

my pups get 1 tbsp kalamata olive oil daily with raw food. they love the taste and will eat everything once drizzled in their food. they get cod liver oil, salmon oil, wheat germ oil alternate days but not quite as often as olive oil that gives them a nice velvety coat.

Ask them if it only works on blue dogs or if other colored dogs can benefit from it. Also ask if they know what rancid means.

Re: cod liver oil & dry food

look it up yourself cod liver oil is too high in A and D vitamins. Vitamin A will cause liver toxicity in your dog. D vitamin is too high also and will lead to toxicity leading to calcium imbalances in the dogs body making it bones porous. the dog gets all the A and D it needs in the comercial feeds you can buy. stick to germ oil, olive oils, or fish oil pills. stay away from cod liver oil. there is no need for it in dogs only humans.

Re: cod liver oil & dry food

Cod liver oil is not toxic but easy to overdose. I think the suggested daily dose of vitamin a is somewhere near 400 IU per day (humour me on the exact dosage) and if you look on the back of the cod liver oil bottle mine has 3920 IU of vitamin A per teaspoonful. Vitamin A overdose can cause problems with dogs, especially growing puppies and can inhibit the bodys proper usage of other vitamins. So, giving it once a week is fine and beneficial for most dogs, pouring a dollop in your dogs food everyday could cause issues.

Veterinarians will push and push and push Science Diet and other foods under the Hills brand name because these companies support the vet office with $$. I was going to go with Science Diet before my bud told me about Taste of The Wild, he told me that Science Diet has preservatives and chemicals and shit in it.

Yup, comes in a little capsule about 3/4 an inch long. You can buy bottles of them at any health store. It's good for hair & nails and stuff.
