Every Stillwater collar I've seen simply does not stand up to an overly active dog on the chain. It doesn't stand up to any particular test of time. They all started fraying and trying to come apart within 2 years. The BSC collars I own have literally lasted longer than numerous dogs that have worn them, and the only fraying they ever did was when a dog chewed on the end.

Yes, Stillwater has a better price, but the quality of the collar is nowhere near the same, on any particular level.

Me either, first time for me too. I have a couple chain brains and I have collars from shane that have outlasted 2 of them and is on a 3rd currently. None of mine are frayed, they'll all look pretty much new, just dirty from everyday wear. I have one that's 10 years old and is still in excellent condition and we have some pretty severe weather here.

Good to see you post again dorito. I agree for the most part..Shane has always been more than fair with his prices and I have had 2 BSC fail which I would say were the most costly on the yard. There are less stretch on the BSC but have seen them frayed and torn in two . That is just my experience. Most of my animals are very high strung and hate that I get collar stretch but keep a soldering iron next to the BS. Again that's my take on it.

I thought I mentioned it earlier. With the BSC collars I haven't had any issue of stretching but my 3ply collars from Shane did. The worst one I had to throw out all of the hardware was loose due to the nylon stretching.

Bulldog Supply makes a really strong rigid collar and they get it out to you really fast. No offense to Shane but I always thought it was interesting how he'll have sales on 10+ collars at a time. Who has 10 dogs and no collars and why would you need to be replacing collars so often? Again maybe I'm looking into it too hard. I'd rather put my money into the product that works best for me

kennel packs are a good way for a few people to pool together and get their collars cheaper ,

Honestly if I'm gone buy a collar ,I'm gone go with at least a 4 ply collar for a chain dog..jmo though.I have never used a 3 ply collar from Shane so I can't comment on those.

Stillwaters products are ok, they are affordable and doesn't ruin the dogs necks like these rough, stiff collars do. They do look pretty worn after a few months on a dog. Shane's customer service is what stands out, second to none.

Highest quality i've tried comes from Hurricane knls from Europe. Expensive, but i've got one thats been with me for some time now and IT looks brand new. No neckrubbing either.

I have a chain runner out there right now who is 5 and has went from a Shane 1 incher to break him to the chain around 6 months. He now has 4 1/2 years on a Stillwater collar. It looks like it may outlast the dog. Still looks good.

We pool on the kennel packs to a buck or two.

I used O'briens for a number of years. Stiff and durable. I liked them a lot. Still have a couple as back ups.

BSC is actually cheaper per collar, but I haven't noticed the prob others talk about with Stillwater collars. I have 10 BSC collars and 7 others spread between Stillwater and OverTyme, soon shall we see witch is best

All of the BSC collars I have, I bought when I lived in another state, and that was over 10 years ago. I've had to retire 2 collars out of over 20 in over 10 years. The Stillwater collars I saw were on the same yard of dogs, but they belonged to someone else. On 22 dogs, all but 5 of those collars were gone inside of 5 years due to the inability to withstand any significant wear and tear. That is the only experience I've had with those collars, and that has been some time ago. Maybe they've gotten better, but I would put one of those collars on any of my dogs.

As for the rubbing of the neck, I really don't care much about that as long as the dog is secure.

One last thing. I've never used anything more than a double ply collar from anywhere on any dog I've ever had. I just don't see the point in triple and 4 ply collars.

Ever try the 5 ply? They are affordable and seem to loosen up on the outside while still giving strength throughout the bulk of the collar because of the top band. No velcro at all.

The collars you guys are refering to that were stretching on yous are probably pretty old. Shane uses 2 ply of seatbelt and has for a while now and that does not stretch. I recently switched to 1.5" instead of the 2" and been plenty happy with them. All my dogs except the house 2 have had collar rub until I switched to either Shanes padded collars or the 1.5". All of there necks healed up pretty fast after switching to one or the other.

Stillwater collars were designed and developed by the top Dogmen in the world and then throughly tested in the lab before ever going on a dogs neck. 1. Superior Tensile strength due to seatbelt/nylon construction.
    2. Lowest elasticity of ANY collar mentioned above. This means it stretches less than any of collars mentioned above. Based in testing approximately 12 times less than it clowest competitor.
    3. The smooth seatbelt material against the next is substantially less abrasive than nylon against the neck
    4. These collars have been used by the top Dogmen in the World for years holding some of the roughest and toughest dogs there are with zero problems.
    5. One of my competitors is really upset over my Neoprene padded collars. I used to not make padded collars because the only padding available was felt. After a few days on the dogs neck the felt would begin smelling so bad you could stand to be around the dog. I came up with Neoprene collars because so many people asked for something other than the felt. The success of this product has ruffled a few feathers.
