coon hunting with pitbulls?

This is one of the most laughable, uninformed statements i have ever read on this forum

 

Didnt read the whole thread cause gotta head to work but hunted coon underground and in barns with a little 25lb apbt and a jack russel. Lots of fun but both dogs have passed since then. Would like to get a patterdale one of these days cause its hard to find a good jack russel. Bought a whole litter of jacks and only one of em was interested in hunting.

 

Hunting with dogs is not illegal. Plenty of people openly hog hunt with dogs in my area. I have shown pictures of my dogs on hogs to police before. It becomes baiting when the animal is penned or chained with the dogs.

There's a difference between baiting and hunting.

 

It always pays to check the laws of the state you live in.I know its not illegal in Alabama as long as the animal is not pinned.Example in Michigan its illegal to hunt deer with dogs.So all states arent going to be the same.

 

what about protection -
Shit - all you gotta do is go find a farmer that has live stock, and a problem with preditors. If live stock is at stake, and your dog happens to get ahold of a preditor - there aint a damn thing wrong with that - and if there is - o well - sure the farmer aint gonna let that thief take his crop. Somethin gonna give.

I lived in Michigan for a while and I was born and raised in Alabama.I got in more than 1 argument on the subject of deer being hunted by dogs.In the south we use dogs to hunt deer because we have alotttt of woods to cover and the brush is thick.We use the dogs to pick up the scent and flyush the deer out of the thicker brush.Now in Michigan the people were deas set against this and would shoot a dog if they saw it chase a deer.So yes ive got in more than 1 argument over this.

 

This is a very touchy subject in certain areas of the United States.And can lead to a fist fight lmao..Seriously.

 

I know what you mean. Its like everything else in this country.. if you use dogs then you inhumane, if you use gun and scope you cheap, if you use a knife you cruel the fuck else is new.

 

During the Civil War most of the South was poor.Most of the South was destroyed and people just didnt have money.So people depended on thier dogs to put food on the table and maybe bring in a little gambling money.So it was passed down from generation to generation and its just a way of life down here..It gets in your blood and its hard to imagine life without hunting dogs.

 

In Virginia you can run dogs on deer, bear,coon,rabbits,squirrels during spring season

Persons owning or using dogs shall not knowingly or negligently permit such dogs to trail, pursue or otherwise molest game during closed seasons. While hunting during archery, crossbow or muzzleloading gun seasons, taking deer or wild hogs with dogs is prohibited. Dogs on leashes may be used to trail wounded game mammals during all seasons. Taking turkeys with dogs at any time is prohibited. Hunters, who use dogs for hunting, including bird dogs or retrievers, are required to have their dogs wear collars that identify their owner’s name and address. This regulation also requires dog hunters to possess landowners’ written permission before using their dogs to pursue game on private property. Last time i checked you can use dog to flush birds in cali and that's about it. Cannot be used on any mammal.

I guess i should have been more specific. When i say dog i mean a bulldog doing what it does not talking about trailing, bloodwork, flushing or pursuing but using teeth and nails lol.
