If it was a negative article about more "vicious pit bull attacks innocent cute little child" it was me who deleted it. And I delete EVERY negative article that I see on this site, so it's not just yours.

There are enough anti-pit bull sites that people can go to to find all the ammunition they need to push for a ban. We don't need to be another one of those sites even if it is inadvertently. We need to be a site that focuses on the positive articles & positive events. While articles on child-dog safety are great to post on here, we need to stay away from the actual dog bite ones.

ignoring the problem wont make it go away. If people see the replies from APBT owners then they would see that we don't condone such behavior or such irresponsible ownership. Consider that if it is percieved that we are ignoring the problem and are not willing to stand up and speak against it, then we are condoning it. People don't come to forums like this to find bad articles on the breed, they come to get educated, or at least we hope they do. It might just change someones mind about the owners and the dogs if they see we look down at that kind-of stuff like everyone else. It also provides a chance for the knowledgable ones to show the holes and falacies in the stories. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but life ain't all roses and positives and bunnies and flowers.

Do what ever you want though, that is JMO.

I'm not ignoring the problem by any means nor is anyone else on this site. Just look around at all the info on why bybs & peddlers should be avoided, why watching your child around dogs at all times is absolutely necessary, etc. etc.

But if we allow these posts, then what will happen is we will become overrun with them & their will be a major shift in the focus of the forum from being proactive to being defensive & making excuses left & right. I've read way too many posts about "I bet the dog wasn't even a 'pit bull'" to "the child had to have done something to deserve it" & on & on. I totally agree that very few of the stories actually hit on the truth, but what we need to be saying is not screw the child & save the dog but shoot the damn thing.

Also, it's a forum rule about the negative press so I'm not just doing this on my own. I'm upholding the wishes of the site owner.

    momma mia,,,

it by no means was the 2 year old's fault,,, the parent and owners of the dog was at fault ,,,,i sent a message to channel 4 and they said it was a broke leash which the dog was on a chain,,,and the little one was told by the parent not to go near the dog,,, and i also told channel 4 that APBT standards do not reach 80 pounds,,, half breed dogs do,,, i was defending the breed correcting the lies that was told on TV to look good,,,,the owner to me was responsible for this for making a dog like that,,,but the parent that knew a dog was out there like that and let his child get away has to share the blame,,,

fact is you can't expect a 2 year old to do what it was told

ignoring problems like this will lead to the extinction of this breed... at least the facts of this case can be set straight

someone else says it better than me

Ghost, I don't think anyone is specifically trying to "ignore" the problem, however, this forum deliberately chooses NOT to focus on negative, owner related problems, yet, instead, chooses to focus on proper, positive ownership of the APBT, and therefore chooses to help educate people so that these "mistakes" are few and far between, and are not something we need to zone in on. Proper ownership, as opposed to improper=where the mistakes are found. It's all in the "About Us", specifically the first 4 paragraphs:

Pit Bull Community is dedicated to the preservation of the pit bull in its original form as a game-bred dog and in its modern incarnations as a loving companion pet and top competitor in weight pull competitions and conformation shows. We are opposed to all forms of animal cruelty, and do not promote any illegal activities, but we celebrate the history of the pit bull and value its qualities of courage, strength and tenacity as the essence of the breed. We are therefore against all forms of breed-specific legislation, and work to protect the constitutional rights of pit bull owners.
    • Pit Bull Community's primary goal is to provide education to the public about the nature of the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) and related breeds such as the American Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, all of which are often referred to as "pit bulls." These breeds have become the media's current choice of "dangerous dog," following the German Shepherd, the Doberman Pinscher, and the Rottweiler. In light of today's barrage of newspaper reports of pit bull attacks, it is hard to imagine that today's "bad dog" was once favored in the United States.
    • The shift in the mass media's portrayal of the pit bull, from the loyal family pet of Our Gang's Petey to a fearsome beast, as well as the rise in breed-specific legislation banning pit bulls, is the result of widespread misinformation and prejudice. The imputation of actions and characteristics of individual dogs to an entire breed, which forms the basis of breed-specific legislation (BSL), is analogous to human racism or classism.
    • Moreover, with a wide range of sizes and colors, and an ever-increasing mixed-breed population, the pit bull presents a challenge for those who would define it. These days, it seems that everyone knows what a "pit bull" is and that "they" are dangerous. This ambiguous status has led to vague definitions of the pit bull in breed-banning ordinances, and the label "pit bull" has been applied generically to any dog that appears dangerous. In fact, over eighty percent of Americans, when faced with pictures of the American Pit Bull Terrier and related breeds, fail to correctly identify the APBT.
IMO, there's no need to add more negative stoires, as this would be counter productive to game-dog's purpose. Aren't there enough negative stories in the headlines already?????? Why should we add more negativity, when what we're trying to do is to promote the APBT in a positive light? Again, counter productive, imo.

I agree 100%. I am tired of all the negativity about our breed. I want to read and discuss our breed and what we can do for the health, temperments, conditioning, etc. of the APBT. I watch the world news and an occasional post about an incident is ok with me but I have to agree with Mia. JMO.

it's like a drug problem though,,, if we don't deal with ill ownership now at some point it will end up costing us the breed in general,,,, running from a problem has never got anyone anywhere as far as i know of,,,, really,,, how is closing our eyes at this going to help the breed,,,, 99% of pitbulls in trouble is due to the fact of ownership issues,,,, anyone else disagree,,, So why close our eyes instead of confronting the problem
MIKA you should be concerned Arkansas is right next to TN,,, if they get they,re way here,,,,your next

Dog attacks will not be posted as news. No one is ignoring any problem, we don't have to further backup what the news\media already propagates. If you want to discuss certain "dog attacks," fine, but do not post the full text, only a link to the article and maybe what you think about it, and post it in Dog Discussion (NOT one of the News forums). News threads display on the front page, not the comments made to them. And that will not be further debated.

You may see it as us closing our eyes, but I see it as possibly opening some that already have their eyes closed.

I am VERY concerned about the whole country,s view on our breed, not just TN. I love the APBT and will fight those idiots all the way. I'm just saying I learn alot from discussing and reading the benefits and what benefits our dogs. I feel the more knowledge a owner has the less likely hood that a ATTACK as they call it will happen. I love this site and am here for knowledge to make me a better dogman. No offense intended to you.

...which is exactly the purpose behind this forum: to educate.

...NOT, help to aid to the media's undoing of this breed by means of their ridiculous, twisted, biased stories and headlines. But rather to educate you, (and you and you,) so you don't become that twisted, biased headline.
Again, NO one is ignoring anything, we're simply choosing not to fortify the unnecessary 'attention' this breed does not deserve. Yes, we know the owners are at fault, hence, who we are trying to educate here. :)

    Suki,

If this is true, why did my post about the "Monkey riding a pitbull" story get deleated? It was a good story, and showed how a bulldog could be used to be the steed of a monkey that rounded up sheep! I thought it was good anyway. Why was that deleated?

well there needs to be some consistency because there are other threads posted about vicious dogs and weren't deleted and they are news stories as well. I posted a link and just said the story was redicilous and it was deleted because "we don't allow threads of this nature", and there are news threads this morning of the same nature. I know Marty needs help keepin up with all this, but there are too many roosters in the hen house.

I honestly don't know why, and I'm unfamilar with that/your post, Jay. I'm not sure who deleted it, as, when I delete a post I will state why, tho I'm the first to admit, there aren't many I delete, and let a lot "slide".
Agreed, consistency is something that is needed, and it's good to be reading about this, and what members might find frustrating, at times, so that these "issues" can be looked into and taken care of. I will look into this...

Well Suk, to be honest with you, the reason you "honestly dont know why" is that I honestly never created that thread! I was just jerking your chain, and trying to lighten things up. Did it make you scratch you head, as say "Huh?"

umm, nope actually, cuz there's NO way I can be on here to read eveything that gets posted, while trying to hold down a full time job, so, honestly, i wasn't sure if you were serious or not, or IF that was a legit post.
so, no, no head scratchin for me!
I am, however, gunna come down and push your bike over!!!:p
