Your donations are helping people who ARE INNOCENT until proven otherwise. These anti-pit bull sites play with the word "allegedly" to fit their needs. They use it in order to accuse people of being "dogfighters". Well, that site is alledgedly lying about their statistics, their facts, and their intentions. They alledgely making up stories and alledgely in it to fill the pockets of those who run the site. They are alledgedly bigots that have nothing better to do than hate, hate, hate....of course, alledgely. They are also alledgely lonely and have no friends. They are alledgely asexual and seek to bombard the public mind's with fake statistics.

A recent internet slander article has drawn our attention at Stop-BSL.com. The website dogsbite.org has decided to "oust" Owners, Breeders and Dogs Against Breed Discrimination founder, Allie Renar, as a "dog fighter supporter" or something of the like. This gross misrepresentation of the facts has lead us to address you here. This email is being sent to anyone I think it may concern and will be posted on our website shortly for visitors.

Several things were written about Allie and Stop-BSL.com which are much less true than they are blatant lies.

First off the claim that this organization is some sort of cover for dog fighters is absurd. Allie has never supported dog fighting and has never said that she does. The truth is that some funds have been routed through Stop-BSL.com and donated from Allie herself to help support ACCUSED dog fighters who were beleived innocent. The supposedly great thing about American society is how you are innocent until proven guilty. In the cases which Stop-BSL's reasearch dept has taken time to find information to help the defense and money has been sent all parties were beleived innocent and had been illegal searched, violationg their Consitutional Rights. All money which went to these people was sent with the request that it reach them. It was sent through Stop-BSL.com to avoid posting personal addresses on the internet. No general donations were routed to these people or used for this cause.

The outcome of these trials and investigations has shown us why we felt we should be involved. Thus far one person plead guilty (due to threats of losing his home which he is currently investigating appealing), four were acquitted, one had his dogs returned without charges being filed and one plead no contest with no jail time served. With these type of statistics it is very hard to believe that these people did not deserve their day in court. Out of over 150 charges the HSUS and local law enforcement had come up with for seven people total only one person has plead guilty to anything. That one person plead to INTENTION TO FIGHT A DOG, which is NOT the same as ever having done it. We know many of you who do not know the background of these cases or know in depth what the HSUS and groups like dogsbite.org are doing will not understand this. For that we are sorry. However, this issue cannot be ignored. The HSUS is trying to make America a country where simply owning a dog allows them to barge in your home without a warrant. They use false allegations and missing evidence to get warrants, kill dogs and then blow it off like it never happened when no one is found guilty of anything. This issue falls squarely in the realm of our mission. We help only those people we feel are innocent from either looking at the evidence presented or from speaking to character witnesses who are willing to bet their lives these people are innocent. Five out of seven times we were right in a court of law.

We fight BSL every day and know that the number one reason it passes is fear. The HSUS and other organizations have long perpetuated the myth that only dog fighters, drug dealers and criminals own pit bulls. They continue to raid innocent dog breeders in order to further perpetuate that myth. These groups know that the acquittal will not warrant much press and the initial media frenzy is all they need to bump up their donations and get more politicians on board with BSL.. We make countless phone calls, orchestrate petitions, inform the public of REAL statistics and yes, we support innocent people with information and some funds in order to help stop the spread of this stereotype.

A largely ignored and forgotten part of fighting BSL is stopping the proponents from polluting the media any more than they already are. And, that is what we did in these cases. We provided information that John Goodwin is adimittedly not an expert on dog fighting or trained in any animal service or care field. Additionally, we provided evidence that Goodwin is a high school dropout with airtight connections to a domestic terrorism organization. This got him removed as an expert witness in several cases because he is not an expert. We helped innocent people prove that they were innocent- that is all. Those parties who were acquitted are not "known dog fighters" as dogsbite.org and the HSUS would like you to beleive. They are dog breeders who had their lives taken from them and slaughtered by pit bull hating fearmongering people and in the end were found to have done nothing wrong.

Groups such as dogsbite.org actively advocate for unfair pit bull restrictions and breed based laws. It is no wonder they would decide to slander a young non profit who is trying to stop them from perpetuating lies and passing useless laws which kill innocent pets. The Humane Society of the united states also advocated sterilizing all pit bulls and is actively offering rewards of $5000 for any information (true or not) which may lead to the senseless killing of more innocent dogs owned by good people.

We truly feel that our organization has been making waves and we have been doing more with getting people to act than we have done to raise money. This is complete retaliation to our blogs and our efforts in which have helped people at least get a fair day in court. Stop-BSL has been around about a year now and this recent attack happens only after the HSUS was embarrassed by it's own ignorance and ill preparedness in court.

As it stands we have not raised a lot of money. What we have done is created a lot of awareness and convinced a lot of people to become active in their communtiy. That is our ultimate goal. To stop BSL at it's roots, in your communities and in the minds of the public. As far as the alleged advertisement in "Scratch Back" we did not pay for this ad. It was donated by someone who saw our site and believed in our mission. As a group that does not have a war chest of money we do not turn down ads offered to us. We do not subscribe to this magazine or know the details of it's contents. Apparently the people at dogsbite.org do have the connections to the "dog fighting" world that our founder is being accused of having.

Pit Bull Community's primary goal is to provide education to the public about the nature of the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) and related breeds such as the American Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, all of which are often referred to as "pit bulls." These breeds have become the media's current choice of "dangerous dog," following the German Shepherd, the Doberman Pinscher, and the Rottweiler. In light of today's barrage of newspaper reports of pit bull attacks, it is hard to imagine that today's "bad dog" was once favored in the United States.

The shift in the mass media's portrayal of the pit bull, from the loyal family pet of Our Gang's Petey to a fearsome beast, as well as the rise in breed-specific legislation banning pit bulls, is the result of widespread misinformation and prejudice. The imputation of actions and characteristics of individual dogs to an entire breed, which forms the basis of breed-specific legislation (BSL), is analogous to human racism or classism.

Moreover, with a wide range of sizes and colors, and an ever-increasing mixed-breed population, the pit bull presents a challenge for those who would define it. These days, it seems that everyone knows what a "pit bull" is and that "they" are dangerous. This ambiguous status has led to vague definitions of the pit bull in breed-banning ordinances, and the label "pit bull" has been applied generically to any dog that appears dangerous. In fact, over eighty percent of Americans, when faced with pictures of the American Pit Bull Terrier and related breeds, fail to correctly identify the APBT.

The American Pit Bull Terrier is descended from the fighting dogs that came to the United States from England and Ireland in the late 19th and early 20th century. Although some dispute its heritage, the APBT is generally thought to have been the result of a cross between the original English Bulldog and a smaller, game terrier, a cross which was then refined on American soil. The United Kennel Club (UKC) was formed in 1898 to recognize the APBT, and other pit bull registries have been founded since, which reward conformation based on performance rather than on size, color or other physical characteristics.

Despite the media's portrayal of fighting dogs, it is precisely the APBT's history as a fighting dog that has made it such a fine companion animal. Bred to be handled extensively by humans who regularly separated fighting dogs in the pit, APBTs became uniquely human-friendly; an APBT who would injure a human, without human error or provocation, was removed from breeding stock. The true, game-bred APBT is thus uniquely responsive to humans and will go to amazing lengths to please its owner.

The gameness of APBTs also allows them to excel as working dogs, in sports such as hog hunting and weight pulling. Because they are so friendly to humans, APBTs are not suitable for guard dogs. Even though the myth, that pit bulls have locking jaws has been completely debunked, they are powerful natural athletes, and encouraging them to be aggressive toward humans is tantamount to criminal action.

Although APBTs typically do not bite people, any dog of any breed will bite a person under certain circumstances. Like any dog, an APBT should always be supervised around young children. Many people, when talking about a pit bull, will call a dog that bites an individual a "man-biter." A man-biter will go after man like another animal with all intent to take it out. At least 99.99% of APBTs will not attack a human, but many display protective instincts and will defend their family and/or property. Humans are most always the ones to blame when a dog bites someone - they have failed in some way, but refuse to take blame for their inability to properly raise, house, and train their pets correctly. It is always easier to blame the dog, its breed, or its genetic makeup, than to take responsibility, train them correctly from day one, and should a problem arise, seek professional help. It is the irresponsible owners who have allowed accidents to happen which could have been prevented, and are now threatening to destroy the pit bull breeds.

Even though the APBT is the most reliably human-friendly of breeds, they often become dog-aggressive when mature (beginning anywhere from six months to two years of age and continuing for the rest of their adult lives). APBTs do not need to be trained to fight other dogs - it is in their nature. Contrary to popular opinion, dog-aggression cannot be "loved out" or "trained out" of APBTs, but it is typically apparent and controllable through supervision and separation of dogs. In fact, dog-aggression is also common in other bully and terrier breeds, and has nothing whatsoever to do with aggression toward humans.

For these reasons, persons who aspire to own an APBT take on a great responsibility. These dogs must be supervised around other dogs, cats, or pets and many should be the only house pet. Even though chains are out of favor among animal welfare advocates today, often with good reason, a well-maintained chain set-up is often the best outdoor containment system for an APBT, and allows them a great deal more exercise and safe interaction than a dog run or kennel. Although parting sticks and exercise equipment are characterized by law enforcement as evidence of dog fighting, they can also be hallmarks of responsible ownership and well cared-for APBTs. We believe that all of these responsibilities are a small price to pay for such a wonderful companion.

We do not condone the indiscriminate breeding of pit bulls, and do not allow posts relating to dogs for sale or stud, when there are countless homeless and unwanted pit bulls being put to death daily in America's shelters. While we support rescue efforts, we are not animal rights extremists. We denounce the mass extermination of pit bulls seized when dogfighters are arrested. Most of these dogs and puppies are similar in temperament to other APBTs and can be successfully placed in homes as pets or with working families. In addition, limited breeding programs, undertaken by knowledgeable and responsible breeders, are necessary to preserve the APBT for future generations.

Pit Bull Community rejects BSL as an unconstitutional infringement on the rights of Americans, based in a vicious prejudice that seeks to destroy an honorable tradition. Many people do not realize it, but there exists an entire culture and way of life in the United States built around caring for and raising APBTs. This breed is an important historical and cultural legacy, and the staff of Pit Bull Community believe that public safety is best served by preserving the APBT in its original form: as a game-bred dog.

We at the Pit Bull Community hope to increase public understanding and dispel the myths surrounding the APBT and the related breeds known as "pit bulls." Please, do your part to educate yourself and others, and save America's dog as well as life as we know it for the owners and lovers of this heroic breed!

So...Just to give another perspective....

The concept of "Anti-BSL" and the concept of supporting alleged dog fighters needs to be kept seperate. Supporting alleged dog fighters is a conflict of interest with stopping BSL.

If stopping BSL is your goal, keep your eye on the target and work towards that. If supporting alleged dog fighters is your goal, do the same but if you combine them, your likley to fail.

If they can say "the anti-BSL group supports alleged dog fighters" you have already lost the BSL war and the focus will be on your support of alleged dog fighters. BSL has no ammo until the dog fighters come out, then they have all the ammo in the world.

To be honest, this group far to often calls it a witch hunt, and in reality, there are actually dog fighters out there. Even in the case of Wildside Kennel, you all came running to the fight but in reality, the HSUS person did entrap your friend there, by saying "I want to buy a dog for fighting" and your friend "told him what he wanted to hear". In reality, he was willing to sell a dog to someone who claimed to want to fight the dog, that is not a witch hunt, that is the reality.

The artical said he was hard up for cash at the time which is why he "told the guy what he wanted to hear", well go deliver pizza's, don't sell dogs to folks who want to fight them. If you state your willing to sell a dog to someone who wants to fight it, your not getting my $$ to stay out of jail... Also, I would hate for the "anti-bsl" groups to start getting involved with a case like that. It diminishes credibility on the part of the anti-bsl groups.

I'll surely be flamed, but association of anti-bsl with alleged dog fighters is working negitivly toward the BSL cause. These efforts need to be kept seperate and combined will offer ammo to the pro-bsl folks. Its way to hard to keep the facts on each issue seperate, and quite honestly, they don't have anything to do with one another.

If you target is anti-bsl, focus on the breed, the good examples, history, and true nature of the breed. Also, help folks understand that for every negitive action, there is a human to blame and that human might be a dog fighter, or a neglectful pet owner.

Sorry, but that is just my perspective on these issues.

 

Rick the problem with your idea there is this.

The HSUS gets a huge amount of support and credibility from every single person they accuse of fighting dogs. They plaster it on the news across the country and that gets people thinking that more of us pit bull owners fight dogs than actually do. I agree that it does exist in this country. . but it is not as rampant as the HSUS wants you to believe. They are planning to use this false claim of a "dogfighting outbreak" to help outlaw our dogs. That is why when someone is INNOCENT and they were wrongley charged they need the help of anyone who has information which can help them.

That is why we got involved with everyone we did. We did not get involved with wildside kennels. I feel bad for the old man and I respect his place in history but i did not give him a dime and will not because he did say he'd sell the dog. . . that's not the same as Floyd, Pat Patrick or anyone else we helped.

You can continue to think that bsl and dog fighting laws are separate but they are not. as a matter of fact the HSUS is trying to put into effect laws which would make them able to enter your home, take your dogs and your property and sell them for a profit all on suspicion of dog fighting. . . the forfeiture laws are what they want. Right now they are illegally searching and seizing in these cases but if enough of these innocent people they attack feel so alone and unsupported that they take a plea even when they aren't guilty it will only help to fuel the fire they are trying to start.

For example, in Floyd's case the warrant was obtained by false testimony of items "seen" from the air. Then all his dogs were killed and the prosecution stalled for 3 years. Why? Because they wanted people to forget. They hoped Floyd would feel defeated and alone and take the many many pleas they offered and they knew that when he was acquitted his dogs would still be dead and no news station would care about the laws they broke 3 years earlier. . . Well, they were right that the news didn't care. But groups like mine and people like these here morally supported Floyd. Some money was given to us for him and some I gave to him as a gesture of good faith. . but not enough to pay his legal fees. We all expect that he will have that covered when he sues them for the wrongful death of his dogs. . . But what our actions accomplished is letting him know he was not alone and that we were rooting for justice.

Anyway, when you say that BSL and dog breeders being accused of dog fighting are unrelated that just tells me that you know nothing about the real plans the HSUS has or all the tricks they pull.

I do know however, and I do not intend to let them ruin innocent lives. Guilty people get themselves into trouble. But many innocent dog breeders have been destroyed by these thugs and I personally will continue to help them. I would hope that my friends would help me if I were ever wrongly acccused of murder or anything of the like. . this is no different.
