Finding good SBTs n the USA

    I have been on this site for a while. I have a 6 month old show bred stafford. She is quite athletic and a great pet. I have had rescued APBTs and APBT mixes. My stafford is the best puppy I've ever owned. I don't formally work my dogs but I'm very active with them and appreciate a game dog. I live in the states. How hard is it to find nice working/game bred SBTs in America? Is it inevitable that they have APBT blood in them? Is it really a bad thing if they do? I'm sure these subjects have been broached on here before. Sorry for being redundant.

    Are you sure you are talking about Staffordshire Bull Terriers, and not American Staffordshire Terriers?

    I guess I am confused, because Staffordshire Bull Terriers were around well before the American Pit Bull Terrier was created.

    Yea I know. I'm just wondering if you can find working rather than show bred SBT in the US or do you need to import from Europe?

    Technically speaking the APBT is an older registered breed. There was no breed going by the name Staffordshire bull terrier until the 1930´s.

    To my knowledge there has been a handful of working type Stafford´s exported to the US over the years. But to my knowledge there are no genuine breeders focused on working type dogs. There are a few breeders focused on a more athletic type of Stafford though.

    Importing dogs is not that complicated, but finding a good European breeder that is interested to help you though is a bit more difficult. Let’s face it, many Europeans on this board does not even know where to turn for a genuine dog. Getting a good dog is doable for you, but it requires a lot of work on your behalf, based on experience most people are not interested in putting that much effort into getting a dog…

    i would like to know is there anyone over here in ireland, that breeds good athletic working staffs.
