I have seen where this kind was from backyard breeders.
Can anyone tell me how they might have came up with this 'type' of Pittie?

I am asking because I have one.
I got him about 2 years ago, and at that time thought that what they call the Red nose, Gator Mouth, Blue nose, and all that mess was actually types of dogs.
Now that I know that they are examples of backyard breeding, what kind of Pit's and mess have they bred to actually get this dog?

It's just a made-up name to usually go along with dogs whose true pedigree/history is completely unknown.

Although there are different breeds considered to be "pit bulls", there is only one true American Pit Bull Terrier.

So basically your dog just has a made-up name that someone thought sounded cool and a bunch of people have since taken it and used it as a way to make their puppies sell over the next guys b/c they sound "big n bad." That's pretty much it to that story.

So my dog is still considered a Pit Bull even though some people just made up a name?
I am so confused whether or not I can call my dog a Pit, and not get yelled at?

The problem is that people say there are different "breeds" or "types" of Pit Bulls, then make up these cool and important sounding names like there is something special about them. But those names mean nothing -- just trying to impress...

There are different BLOODLINES of APBTs, not different "types" or "breeds" (Gator-Mouth, Blue Nose, Texas Red Pits, etc -- all mean nothing). There are other BREEDS of dogs that are put under the "pit bull" umbrella by the media -- and those are American Staffordshire Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

So, there is a difference when people say "breed" or "type" of Pit Bull; and when they say there are other BREEDS that are CONSIDERED to be "pit bulls" by the laws and media...

It sounds like you have an APBT, the only thing to maybe find out now is what legitimate BLOODLINE he is, if any. Did you get papers or pedigree with him?

Nope. Didn't get niether. Actually saved him from being dumped on the side of the road after he tore a while in the owners swimming pool. They didn't want him, so I stepped up.

    Hi southerncharm!

As has been said previously "gator mouth" is usually a BYB term for a bulldog with unknown pedigree.

However, in my area "gator mouth" is also a term used by uneducated fanciers to describe a dog that has a certain shape to his mouth. Here are two of my dogs that would be considered (& have been called) "gator mouths" :

To my knowledge there is no legitimate bloodline called gator mouth, but they may be calling your dog that for the shape his mouth has.

    Hope this helps!

By the looks of your dogs tail, it looks like there may be some other stuff in there. Staff maybe. Looks kinda wide IMO. An APBT has a pencil thin tail...

ABK, LOVE this dog. Reminds me of my Rock dog...Hows he/she bred?

Get a standing shot of him if you can. I curious as to how hes built. Staffs tend to have straight toplines and more rounded shoulders. The muscles are put together a bit diff from APBT's

The only thing that looks off on the dog to me is the thickness of it's tail

Alot of people have said that.
Is it the Staffy that has the thick tail?
