I would like to come see this dog in person and to see him pull. you definately have a good pullin dog no doubt about that, However according to google maps it would take me alittle over 9 hours to get to this event from were I live. I'll just have to wait for the youtube video.

Dreamer, so true! We taught the dogs how to break the rails when they start to freeze by zig zagging and tugging. They still get frustrated at times, but they still work their butts off in it and seem to have a more fun at it than on the other surfaces.

Here's my brindle heathen, Ryker, at his second snow pull. The rails kept freezing - not too much weight really got piled on, even with the larger dogs.

I will say this .... Yes good dogs are were you find them ........ But NO not every dog is cut out to be a pull dog there's more to it then good training .... Yes it helps and helps a lot ...... But ..... Well like many things that we all do with our dogs Genetics play a big part as well ......

  4. Coldriver, i agree with you to a point. Genetics are a big factor, but it still takes a good handler and trainer. Some dogs will pull cause of genetics, and love/appreciation shown to them by handler/owner, but will be just average dogs, just like in old days somebody could get a dog of two ch. and expect high things and dog might not pan out and that line gets bad name, same in weight pull you could get pup off of two aces and not pan out, but is it dog or handler?

i am speaking from experience, when i got my first pull dog it was off of proven lines and dog was average, but as i learned more and got more experience then each new dog was better. biggest thing is learn all you can from experienced people be patient with dog and yourself, dont try to win a trophy your first pull and get upset when you dont win, start slow and build your dogs confidence and your confidence. dont worry about what any one thinks about you or your dog in beginning or anytime for that matter, your dog is only as good to you as you want it to be. my first dog was average but in my eyes he was a champion

you can shut a dog down real quick pushing to hard for something he is not ready for by discouraging

so any line can pull if patience and time is put into dog, owner/handler/trainer has to have knowledge of what they are doing. but genetics will make it a little easier. i think it is better to say that more dogs will be average then great, i know good well reputable pullers who said they have only had one great dog in their life time even though all dogs might have achieved something in pull. This is what breeding is for, to better what you have and hope you get it. I know i breed for myself first trying to improve what i have, dogs have to show me something. This is what has gone wrong with this breed, alot of people wants to make it a business and try to profit and breed for what ever and dont care what they get as long as they get $$$. jmo

My dog LOVES to pull on snow. She does pull on the roads and on dirt, but she does much better with snow. She uses a sled though, not a cart. :)
