Heartworm Preventative???

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by iluvchris040607, Apr 10, 2006.

  1. Has anyone ever heard of mixing 1 cc of 1% Ivomec and 9 cc's of Propylene glycol, giving 1 cc per 20 pounds of body weight, for a heartworm preventative?
When I went and picked up a dog in Virginia the man I purchased the dog from gave this to me...Has anyone else ever heard of it? Also, I dont recall him saying whether to feed it to them or inject it and I cant get a hold of him...Does anyone know? Any and all help will be appreciated.

no need for the glycol. you can admin ivomec but i just use heart gaurd. always have your dog tested before administering anything as you can kill your pet should he allready have developed worms. ivomec can also be given orally no need to inject.

All my dogs get ivomec on the first of every month. Dose is 1/10 of a cc per 10 pounds of body weight. I usually squirt it in their cheek or on a small piece of bread and feed it to them. The bread trick works best. Never had a dog test positive...

I have heard some bad feedback about oral ivomec in the past. A guy who hunts coon dogs says it was affecting their voice. He had to stop using it and go with interceptor or heartgard. I don't know if this is common or not. I have never had any problems with it.

We use our dogs to hunt hogs and we haven't had any problems with the cur dogs barking...

Been useing Zimecterin for twenty years. It is a paste for Horses. It has ivermectin in it and I have never had a problem with it. Seems to be easy on the dogs and it is easy to give to your dog. A tube will do twelve hundred pounds so it just takes a little.

i use ivermection...1/10cc per 10 lbs body weight. It's good for all worms, including heartworm preventative. I've heard the dose can be smaller if it's just for heartworms, but never had anyone confirm it.

I have also been using Ivermection, and was just curious does it also help with fleas and ticks, or is it just my imagination? Cause I live in the country and have never had a problem with fleas.
