Sometimes baptism by fire works better depending on the mindset and goals of the individual. I started out the same way. Jumped right in. Of course, my first one wasn't bred anywhere near how well bred your pup is but he was by far the best 200 bucks I ever spent. He was however a man eater so he only made it to 4 years of age. Good luck with your pup!

another odd things iv never had a dog 12 weeks old trying to hump me with his boner AT THAT YOUNG AGE!! hes crazy active and growls alot when tugging or playing and playing rough with my year and half pit! that humping thing is odd! looking forward to start teaching on the carpet mill!
my question is i shouldnt be socializing him with other dogs i assume?
and how do i increase his gameness and drive! im a newbie and im super curious and double super excited that its happenning and i got what i always wanted! i just want to try my best so excuse my lack of knowledge! reading and researching is something but in real its something else! i just want to get it as right as i can as early as i can! cease the oppurtunity of having him this early of age!
again many thanks for everyone who commented and still does!

Gameness and drive can't be increased. Just provide stimulation and adequate exorcise for his age and energy level. Playing with other dogs won't decrease his gameness .the day he turns on playing won't be an option anymore most likely. If his humping you slap him off. Don't be afraid to set him some rules and boundaries about interacting with people. Again disciplining him won't decrease his gameness but will help make sure your in control

Well you say you are familiar with dogs, but you are surprised he's humping you.... Guess what! He already dominates you in his mind!
As Revolution said, gameness is not something you can increase. It's something you can destroy though... You must dominate him, without destroying his confidence... Good luck with that!
As far as drive goes, the less distractions a dog has, the more focused is on the task you give them to work. For example I haven't leash trained my 2 apbts, even though I know pretty well how to do it. I paid the price and my elbow and shoulder are in constant pain by pulling, but I prefer my dogs not spend their mental energy by containing themselves besides my leg... Believe me it's exhausting for a dog to check you all the time in walks while he wants to do so many other stuff!
The only legit advice I can give you is, give him things to exhaust his energy every day! I have a carpet mill and leather tugs. We use all of them twice a day just to keep them happy and fullfilled!

cool! with my other dogs im always in control but with him im not preventing him from nipping and playing rough just so he grows confident enough but again im being like this for trying to get the most out of him!
i dont let any person touch him or anywhere near him!

what methods to use to stimulate him at this age? ill start with the carpet mill as soon as he can climb it himself without my aid! other than that?

thats what i mean! the leash walking was other matter i wanted to ask about! mira my female pit used to pull me on skateboard and once i started teaching to walk on leash she stopped due she incorporated the leash pulled means a negative thing and she should stop!
and im surprised from the humping cause hes very young! i know its a dominance thing but i thought i should let him be ! so thanks for clarifying!
i had planned to let him be with walks without leash manners and guess imma stick to it

Aint nothing better than a dog pulling his ass off on a lead, it's something i admire and love even though my body pays for it lol.

I trained my dog to walk beside me and pull when I tell him. 4 to 5 miles a day walking with bogey knee is not easy if the dog is pulling all the time.

You guys should try bungee leads/leashes. I used bungee straps until the leads of different weight tensions came out

Any dog which will venture into public at some point would benefit not only from human socialization, but from basic on lead training and obedience. Trained dogs are pretty smart in knowing when the boss wants them to settle down and pay attention and when it’s okay to forge ahead in drive. Often as simple as switching from flat collar to training collar.

The bicycle with proper tow attachment is an equalizer for those determined pullers during workouts.

i agree, but all i was wondering wether letting him be dominant and have his way with everything and not dominating him will increase his confidence and drive more! i was wondering if it is like this

IMO rearing the puppy includes 1) ensuring health and wellness needs are met; 2) socializing with humans especially family; then as the dog matures - 3) teaching him to work for you the leader; and then 4) with you as a confident, obedient teammate. This is what I was taught by a long time working dog trainer.

Even if you have a future goal of making this pup the SDJ dog of the year, I believe the same training principles would be beneficial. I am only guessing those with actual dogfighting experience and an established track record with game dogs would agree with the above listed principles.

no.......do you want an out of control dog that you won't be able to handle? Letting the dog dominate won't give it more drive. You have a gamebred dog. The genetics are already there. Don't ruin it.

Never let any dog you own of any breed dominate you. Are you his owner or does he own you....... A dog that can dominate you will not respect you, listen to you etc. In his eyes he is the boss, not you. Makes for a very dangerous situation.
