History about the Legend Bullyson

Bullyson was bred by Jerry C. (The last owner of Six Bits). He was sold a few times and had a few owners, Bobby H., Maurice C., Red W.. I was told by JC that he took him to FB yard rolled and stoped 2x diferents dogs off of Eli and bred him to a female all in under 1 hr in the heat of the afternoon. I was also told he was open to the world for awhile and even put in a newpaper claiming to be the best at his wieght with no takers. He was producing dogs as good if not better then himself (Ch. Midnight Cowboy ROM who produced almost a win for each pup he had 50 pups and 50 wins direclty off of him) Ch Stomper ROM, Ch Chivo ROM, Ch Honybunch ROM among other great dogs. Bullyson was also the all time favorite dog of the late great Maurice C. who had some of if not the best dogs between 1960-1970's. It has been said Maurice C. always said there is no dog alive that could hang with Bullyson. Bullyson was not in good condition the day of the fight, he lost control on his back legs at the :35 mark from such damage and at :45 did not scrath and within 20min was dead, I would not call that a cur. I saw 2x post from another forum so I am pasting them here to give a litte more info on this great animal.

NOW WHEN THESE DOGS CAME ON THE SCENE OH MY,THEY WERE DESTROYERS,BUT WE ARE GOING TO GO DEEP,DEEP UNDERCOVER,BULLYSON,ELI JR CHANGED THE SPORT,AND BACK IN THE DAY PEOPLE STRARTED GOING HOME EARLY,THEY PRODUCED DOGS LIKE ART,BULLYSON JR,MIDNIGHT COWBOY,HUDSONS TEX,BENNY BOB,ECT...PEOPLE WERE AFRAID OF THESE DOGS,BACK IN THE DAY,YOU HAD TO HAVE REAL GREAT DOGS TO BEAT THESE DOGS,AND MOST OF THE TIME YOUR DOG WAS NOT COMEING HOME,HEY LETS LOOK WHO BEAT THEM,THOSE TIGHT BRED DIBO DOGS,JIMMY BOOTS,TOMBSTONE THESE WERE THOSE OLD DIBO DOGS,THAT STAYED AROUND TILL THE LAST BELL,BUT BELIEVE YOU ME,BULLYSON CHANGED THE SPORT,I ASKED AN OLD GENTLEMAN,WHO WAS THE BEST DOG,BETWEEN ELI JR AND BULLYSON,HE SAID HANDS DOWN BULLYSON,WHEN BULLYSON WAS YOUNG NOBODY WANTED A PIECE,HE HAD TO GET OLD,THEN HIS OWN SON BEAT HIM,HE WAS ATHELETIC,STRONG,AND HAD A MOUTH OF AN ALLIGATOR.

You are correct, Bullyson was one of the 5 top bulldogs in recent bulldog history. He was a beast, a great pit dog, talented, fast, smart. That dog was totally spent by the time his son got ahold of him, his son was bigger, stronger and faster, not to mention younger, which is a compliment. BULLYSON threw better than himself. BULLYSON had everything working against him in that fight, he was anemic, snake bitten, mouth chewed up from trying to chew out of a kennel and the worst part was he was bred right before his match ! Did he quit ? Maybe, you see, to me, a quit dog is on that is completely over matched and jumps the pit, or one that starts up real quick but then shuts down, with very little pressure applied to him. BULLYSON got shotgun holes punched all over his body, I think he went into shock myself. After 45 minutes of that type of pressure, he had nothing left. <!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- google_ad_section_end -->

At least he died with his boots on! Doesn't sound like a cur to me, sounds more like he passed the torch to his son that day, even if he didn't want too.

That dog was born, bred, raised and then sold not 10 miles from my house. Wonder what it must have been like back in those days everytime I drive that direction.

Something else you might want to ponder. It would seem that with all of the stories, tales, books and articles surrounding this great dog that he would have lived for many years right? Wrong!!

He was RIP at the age of 3 years old !! He was basically a pup the whole time he was campaigned !! Switching hands numerous times, having his balls bred off and enough rolls to RIP 8 dog according to J.C.
Talk about being completely put through the ringer and having the deck completely stacked against you. And people have the nerve to call him cur.
Bullyson is one of the most influential bulldogs in the history of the APBT.

A real good friend of mine had a dog matched at that show. He was close to Maurice and bred to Bully a week before the fight. One stick, thirteen pups. He also claims Bully was rubbed and MC was in on it.

OK - So I'd guess a lot of people would feel that saying Bully Son was bad for the breed would be a lot like slapping Jesus. Here goes. Yes, he produced a lot of good dogs. Yes, he was a destroyer of dogs. Yes, when young he was unbeatable. And rubbed, over bred, bad blood, failing kidneys, and shock he still lost- But, he also produced a lot of man eaters. Even Bobby Hall admits to this in his books that Bully Sons' sons and daughters were terrible man eaters - even attacking Bobby's wife and son. How much harm did this do the breed - passing on this gene and making it stronger by all the tight line and inbreeding done. Passing on potential man eaters or the genes to produce them has had to have a detrimental effect. Could you have handled a "Bully Son" ? Or one of his get that was bent on eating you or a member of your family up? Not Me! I know his blood is in most lines - but make mine as little as possible.

    Who cares.....

  20. I care, and am gonna have to agree with old dog on this. Bullyson should've been culled. They don't mean he attacks on command, they mean "you" make a move he didn't like and you end up with stitches. These dogs really don't have that many requirements when it comes to breeding, but the ones they do have need to be respected. Gameness and being human friendly are two of them.In my mind the only other things to consider is the dogs willingness to complete other forms of work and reproduce these three traits in their offspring. It's the science and evolution of the game dog, if you don't care about that why are you here?
