Hunt drives at 9 months

Was in DC with my 9 month old staffy. She was off lead in a park when 3 or 4 rats came running at us. She gave chase and was on one rat for quite some time but never grabbed it. I have a rescued APBT shepherd mix that dispatches any Vermon without thinking twice. Even though she is 12 years old now, she still rips opossum off the top of my 6 foot fence and takes them out with ease. My staffy is an athletic show bred bitch. My question is is it normal for a 9 month old to still be playing with its prey or is she so watered down that she won't even catch a rat? I still love her but just looking for feedback from those with experience with working staffs. What should 9 month old dogs/bitches be showing you?

it all depends on the dog and how its been mentored. some dogs need to get bit off a rat then hey presto. one method is to get a large barrel or an empty refuse skip, chuck a few rats in then put your dog in, ps i do not advocate animal cruelty.
