When I was younger my family from England (all miners) would come to Scotland for Hogmany, the party always got held at our place, kids put to bed, then the adults would start drinking before bringing in New Year together.. Never long before Billy Connolly records got played and everyone listened and laughed and drank.. They was good times!

Brought up on billy Connolly with me old ma been scottish best part i like is at 19.20 till 22 .10

 

Actually mate, anyone from south of the great glen considered 'sasenach' by Highlanders, my mother was a Highlander and my dad Lowland Scots, grandmother tragically died young, my mother and uncles scattered between foster parents and children's homes, they got moved to England, with my mother being only one of her siblings who returned to Scotland, out of family who stayed in England I was closest with the South Yorkshire miners.. I like the English.. Good people!

 

Had family myself moved to south yorks to work in pits,much easier working conditions,bolton on dearne.

 

I spent every summer holidays in Barnsley, helped farmer in fields for 50p a day, played on Grimethorpe pit stack and swam in river Dearne at weekends, hard days but great memories.

 

Rule #1.. Never talk direspectful to your ma.
Rule #2.. If you do talk disrespectful and she happens to be Scottish, call an ambulance first

 

Shes got alzhiemers now mate ... never has a good word for me now
