My bulldogs has an injured or broken tail. It has a little bit of swelling and a minor kink to the side. I noticed during his roadwork it was a little off. I figure he did it from wagging it all over the place and bumping it. It's tender to the touch and is painfull causing him to growl. I give him a 1/2 pill aspirin twice a day. Still hurts him when you touch. He still has full control of his tail and can still wag it. It's not cold yet.
So what's the deal. Do I let it heal on it's own. Or bring him to the vet and get raped with bills. I figure there's nothing they can do but prescribe pain meds.

Tough call. To fix the problem you will have to go to the vet and that will cost you. Here in Mexico, this kind of procedure is barely $20 and about $40 to $50 for a surgery to repair depending on whether it needs to be cut off. Good luck fixing your dog up.

A dog I had lived her whole life with a bloody tail from wagging. But there was no pain in it for her so I left it.If it be came a constant problem I would take the dog to the vet.My vet gave up on the bloody tail.

If there is swelling, maybe it will get better when it goes off. When I had my dog with a similar problem and his tail was hanging like it was dead, I visited my vet that has a PhD in animal orthopaedics and I was told that if it is broken, there is no fix for it, the bones there, are too small to do anything. It sounds right to me since the tail is an extension of the lumbar spine. What vets in Mexico could offer, in case of a broken tail, I have no idea, but maybe they have a technique they follow.
