in lieu of the tant post developing into a discussion on trespassing and theives...what approach DO YOU take in order to keep unwanteds off and out off your property and away from your animals...?
WITHOUT THE MR MAJESTIC CHARLIE BRONSON DEATH WISH BULLSHIT...what does everyone do to keep their yards safe from thieves unwanted guests WHEN YOU ARE NOT THERE?......IE....
Survelliance (how do you have it rigged how much?)
Locked. Wire stitched in collars
Electric fence...etc.

i let kids on our yard aslong as they dont get close to the dogs unless im out with them....if u over 14 hehe u get the knuckles(if u here without permission)

As for meat, you can train them to only eat what you put in their bowl.

And as for the bitch in heat thing, that's why I use female Dobermans!

 

No true yard to guard so to speak, but I've got shady types & unfriendly neighbors (Who have proved to me that they will enter my property.), not to mention dumb*** neighborhood kids who try to come and go as they please.

I generally have at one 1 or 2 GSDs around the yard, but when their not there, I've got the best damn guard dog:



Other than that, I had a friend install two cameras, one in either side of the yard. I can't remember how much it cost, but I'm guessing about $100? I have motion sensitive lights too, which don't really do anything. . . But hey. . .

I also have electric wire running along the top intermost part of the fence, so if someone were to put there hands up to climb it, they get surpised

well actually i never trained them for this mexicano but they wont eat anything i dont feed them even bacon a friend of mine tried to give them bacon wouldnt take it sniffed it and turned and walked away so i had diffrent friends try everything and they will not take anything i dont give them,as far as the bitch in heat thing i have a male and a female so while he is doing his buisness the female can take up the slack.lol

 

I don't know about more territorial, but are at least as territorial as the males but are more focused on the task at hand. Males are easily distracted & want to fight too much. These have been my first female guard dogs & I doubt I will ever use a male again!

What's funny is I think one of my Dobies is a raging feminist - if a strange man tries to come into the yard she goes right for his privates & it's not for a friendly sniff!! She was not taught this either, it's something she came up w/ on her own.

ya know i have seen dobies come up with alot of their own little quirks that they do they are by far my second favorite dog after the bulldogs.and they are fantastic guard dogs for your property granted you can take care of them right and you know how to control this type of large agerissive dog,because they can be down right scary when they wanna be.and that means like bulldogs that they are not for everybody.so if you are thinking on getting one be sure and do your homework on the breed.

First you need a fully enclosed yard with locks on every door and barb wire on the fencing enclosure. For your most valuable dogs use a chain coller with a big strong pad lock. The most important and best item is the SECURITY VIDEO CAMERA.

The first time I saw her do it I thought the meterman's jewels were going to be toast. Luckily, I was there & called her off. When he saw her going for him he froze stock still. He's a better person than I am b/c she got awful close & if it was me I'd at best covered myself & jumped a mile high or at worst brained her w/ my mag light. lol.

 

Damn good neighbors work for me. If even one person approches my house they don't know or are expecting I get a phone call. Plus, my mother stays there most of the time while I'm at work.

(And one of my neighbors is an animal control officer...he keeps an eye out for me and keeps other off my back. Got a note from the Animal Control once talked to him and he took care of it so I don't get a note again. )

You sure about the chain collar thing? I've read over and over chains used as a collar aren't good for the dog. Don't think I'd ever use one.
