How long before a show/hunt should a game dog have his last feed?

I like to count down backwards from 30 hours 5 days out. For me it is between 24 and 30 hours.

Depends how on the money you are really. If you're right you should know the digestive cycle of the dog and adjust accordingly. All dogs are different and getting to that point you really should know everything about the dog.

24 hours before is the most usual like @Sleep said. But to be sure you are doing well you need to know everything about your dogs metabolic systeem digestieve cycle. I know Some who are visiting their vets from time to time. Those are the great dogmans with great results

24 to 28 hrs out always worked for me...but that's not to say that's written in stone but I weight em up close to 3 times in a 24 hR period to Kno at 12 hrs after feed 18 out and 24 hrs out to Kno different times of the day and wen he's completely empty never can be to sure imo

I count backwards from the start of the show in 30 hour increments for five days.

He is fed 30 hours apart the last five days and is weight at different point throughout the day/night.

This ensures he is empty but much more important it allows the dog to regulate himself to his water weight vs. being 'dexed/diuretic dosed' to 'dry' the dog. He will piss excess water and piss himself down to a suitable water content.

I like the 30 hour countdown because it effectively dials water weight naturally. I won't overly dry the dog to the point of dehydration and he will naturally remove excess water from the body.

    Thanks.

I wish I thought I knew enough to write a book.

The guy that helped me the most working dogs.... I treated it like he was a professor and I was in dog college. He would tell me things and I would write them down as soon as I got home. Over time the stuff sort of piles up, in notes and in the brain.

We had a show one night and the pit was made with hay bales. After the show they moved the bales around and he sat at the front of the 'class'. It was a real life question and answer session. The class lasted four hours longer than the show.

Again, thanks. But I think I have so much more to learn before I could write a book.

Isn't 48 hours a long time without food/ nutrition before a potential marathon?
    Just saying.

    30 is the outer limits.

I know some who go longer than 30.

48 hours sounds like a really long time but if the dog is properly fed up until that point and his hydration is maintained then 48 hours is not completely out of the question.

The issue would be more of how to ensure the hydration level and maintaining it at the optimum level.

It is a bit out there but I would not thin it is too far fetched. I'm good at 30 and for some that is a but much..

There is a big chance that the dog get dehydrated after 48 hour after his last feed.Dehydration will lead your dog to get more slow and weak. Your dog will losing more water and electrolites than they are taking in, dehydration occurs and body will begin to breakdown. 24 hours is usual and most common and proven

There have been plenty of dogs that went 48 between feed and show. Some just didn't travel well and some was just too keyed up because they could damn neer tell how close the ball dropped. Some just fucked up during a keep and shit just got out of whack and couldn't find any popsicle sticks lol things ain't as cut and dry as folks think.

48 is a long ask and you should not need to go longer than 24 if you know your dog .
The weight and hydration should be constantly monitored throughout the work regime so there should not be a need to cut food or water 48hrs out to make weight .
