Thanks. I will try at the beach. I believe with the sand I can make something better.

Drag some chain when you walk if that's an option where you are at. That'll help some but like boxbulldog said, genetics play a huge role in their structure.

I have seen a lot of people pull too much weight off a dog and then there it is looking all wimpy and skimpy. I understand the need to beef up certain areas. Not too the point of bulging though.. more like toning and shaping the dog.

Spring Pole and any Resistance training is going too build strength.. For the rear end, i have found the spring pole is the best.. Adjust it like AGK said and let him work it, the legs will strengthen in no time if the dog has drive and good genetics, i watched my males back legs shape into chissled marble, not overly done though, just toning sand shaping.

Drag work is another way to build strength but again, that falls under Resistance training for me..

If you using the springpole must the rear legs still on the ground?

Very good looking dog, thanks for the pic.
I startend a few weeks ago, but Jojo jumps immediately high with the hind end loose from the ground.
And he loves It very much.
Does your dog also make noise while hanging?
Here a vid of Jojo (with smartphone )

I'm thinking about to use a "Solo tugger" (try to make it myself)

Is this also good for the hind end??

I always keep the back feet on the ground.. I will then switch too the all 4 on the ground with a spring tied to a pole that is level with their topline.. Works their mid section (core) and neck a lot.. And yes, my male is a screamer on the spring pole..

Yes, keep their back legs on the ground at all times. Very important. People think it looks 'cool' letting their dog sling back and forth but I can promise nothing is cool about taking the dog to the vet because of broken bones.

Huge myth that building muscle the dog will blow hot. Dogs lose endurance because of low endurance capacity to begin with!

The only way you will increase muscle size is with resistance training. Carpet mill is the easiest and safest way to increase muscle size in a very short time. If time isn't an issue you can see incredible gains in about 3 months or more sometimes within a couple of months you will see noticeable gains. I have seen to many dogs hurt on a flirt pole but the tugger shown on the youtube video is an excellent tool for increasing neck and shoulder muscles. If you have a dog that pulls hard while hand walking it will also increase muscle size.

Diet is critical because in order to take advantage of the dog being in an anabolic state you are gonna need foods high in zinc, magnesium and iron to move blood. Spinach, greens, dark leafy vegetables, black eye peas and soy beans. Creatine is a must because it's a cell volumizer and the strength gains will be noticeable soon. Any wild game will work for a meat source because compared to domesticated animals have as much as 5x the creatine. Feeding atleast 3 to 4 times a day will keep the metabolism burning and protein levels steady. Feeding within 30 minutes after the workout will increase the efficiency of what you are feeding and absorbed better. Protein will be key but more importantly quality and digestibility of the protein is key. Hydrolyzed whey protein isolate is the best protein that can be absorbed quickly and effectively. I use a protein/creatine mixed with water as soon as possible after a workout to get protein synthesis started asap before the after workout meal.

  11. I make these for the spring pole. It's strong enough to hold a ship lol. The rope is dirt cheap and easy to replace when they shred it.

There is a lot of misunderstanding about muscles and running hot. Increasing muscle mass alone the dog will maybe not so much blow hot but will run hotter. The more muscle the more blood. Where the misunderstanding and the 'blown hot' dogs come into play is when the water weigh it pulled off the dog at the end. Most of the time the muscle mass is deemed the culprit but the root cause is the dog went from wet to adequately hydrated and then over the line to dehydrated. Once the water content is too low, the blood volume changes and the bigger muscles need more than the dog really had to begin with.

A properly worked, a properly fed and properly watered a dog with muscle mass can perform without running hot.

I'm not a fan of gaining muscle per se, more concerned with toning/hardening what he already is working with. Most of the time in a healthy and fit bulldog trimming some fat away and bringing the water weight down will cut one up and the muscles did not really change size but they do look better when seen with definition.

I give my dog only food no supplements. I feed twice a day. I make my dog food. 7kg chiken with 3 kg of carrot, 7kg beef with Broccoli 7kg fish with beens. Every 1-2 months I change the vegetables. Then I split it to smaller bags and I feed him every meal different taste.

Same here.. Tone and Shape what is there.. However i have seen dogs come off a chain too fat, then they get ran to death with no strength training and they just look too skinny, healthy but skinny. Gotta work on toning and if you need a little added gain, then i see no problem in it.

A good way of using resistance and walking a dog that pulls a lot is walking another dog in front, i have my daughter walk my bitch in front of my male and he works double time trying too get back out front..

Very true. I like hand walking, especially the dogs that keep my elbow locked and the lead banjo string tight. We are doing work at that time. A dog waling leisurely beside a person would have to walk half a day to see the effects, some even longer.

In order to truly understand how to increase muscle size you have to start from the beginning with a basic cell. Canines have more mitochondria than humans hence their ability to produce twice as much energy of a human. Think of mitochondria as the power plant of the cell and there are ways to increase mitochondria and it's ability to produce more power.

The reason why creatine was discovered in dogs first is because of mitochondria. Creatine turns a basic 100 watt mitochondria into a 500 watt mitochondria, hence creatine is a cell volumizer. Canines have more mitochondria than humans and that's why canines respond better to fats and oils vs humans. After creatine is used the cells have to be hydrated and the best way to give the cells a double dose of hydration is by feeding high water content fruits and veggies. If anyone follows my posts this is why thru real food you can do a lot of things and hydrating a canine is just one of the benefits!

Anaerobic conditioning will MULTIPLY mitochondria where aerobic conditioning only SLIGHTY increases mitochondria. I'll break it down in terms of building an engine so everyone can understand. Think of mitochondria as 350 engine, creatine strokes it to a 383 engine and here is the kicker. Aerobic conditioning is like adding a bigger carb which slightly increases horsepower but Anaerobic conditioning will MULTIPLY horsepower like adding a supercharger to the stroked engine! Protein is the high octane fuel needed to make sure the engine runs properly while being operated.

The most important element of increasing muscle size is the muscle pump when a dog is in the anabolic state! Nothing else matters or as important when trying to increase muscle size than the "pump"! The sooner and longer the dog is in this pump state determines how much muscle growth occurs.

Don Mayfield was light years ahead of conditioners in his time and if you are using an aerobic blunt tool such as a slat mill you will never maximize a dog's anaerobic capacity!
