Neighbors dog attacks mine while in own yard

I live on a road with tons of dogs. Most people on the road have sense enough to contain their dogs but some do not. The only dog Natas likes is the doberman that lives with us. Because Natas is not dog friendly and there are so many in the neighborhood I make sure he is either chained, at my side or on a leash. The other day I was cleaning out my truck, Natas was sitting in the front seat being nosy as usual when the neighbors dog decided to come on over. Natas ofcourse jumped out of the truck, as soon I saw him heading towards that dog in the driveway I yelled to him and he immediately stopped and came back to me. This dog then decided to charge at Natas, the dog is some poodle mutt mix. I continued to tell Natas no and I charged the dog out of the yard because he kept trying to get at my dog. I went on a mission to find out whose dog this is because this is not the first time this dog has come over and tried to fight with Natas and each time i've had to break it up. Well come to find out the people that own this dog live two houses over and they were sitting outside watching the whole thing. I figured maybe they are ignorant and just don't get it so i went over and told them I have a very dog unfriendly pit bull and i would appreciate it if they kept their dog out of my yard because I can't guarantee that the next fight will be broken up. They made some excuses and just kind of laughed it off. My question is what do I do the next time this happens. Like I said when I am home Natas is at my side or on a leash but when my stepfather is home sometimes he will just chain Natas out in the backyard for a couple of hours. This dog was not smart enough to back off so i'm afraid if i'm not there and Natas is chained outside this could be very disastrous. These people are obviously careless enough not to prevent anything but i'm afraid when something does happen they are going to screaming on my doorstep. I've considered calling animal control because this dog is always roaming the neighborhood but I don't want to be responsible for getting someones pet taken away.

Lmao, at the stupid peole I would call animal control because if you don't and there is a fight that can't be broken up who do u think is gonna more then likly win and then its your dogs fault, would u rather have a dog charge on you or people not be happy with you because there dog was taken away I wouldn't want to know for the rest of my life that My poor dog was put down because he had to protect himself and by doing so he hurt another dog and so he's the one thats going to get in more trouble then the poodle mix. CALL ANIMAL CONTROL! A.S.A.P.

You warned them and they laughed it off. It's not fair to you to have to take responsibility for their dog being on your property and it's basically just a tease to Natas. If the mutt wants to be in your yard and play/fight with Natas, then let it, and let it see just how friendly Natas really is :)

Problem dogs on my block get shot. (not by me, I couldn't do that... but by my police officer friend!)

Shave the stupid poodle bald, get a very large Sharpie marker and write "My owners are irresponsible that is why this happened to me, I live at xxxx address" on the poodle.

How could you guys say let the other dog come into his yard and see what happens then his dog is gonna be taken away from him put in a pound on death row because he has stupid neighbours who think well, I am not gonna do anything I am gonna let his dog bit mine then I will have a law suit against him and there won't be a "Pit Bull" in our community, Just remember what type of dog Natas really is. Remember the name they already have mean visious dogs why add fuel to the media and public eyes fire. Whats the point it's not fair to Natas. GO to animal Control, unless you do want to have to carry a bad name.

  9. I suggest you make a report to the police. This will accomplish two things. First, it will give you evidence in case a fight occurs and the dog is hurt. This will cover your @ss from incurring medical expenses. Second, it may persuade your neighbors to keep a better eye on the mutt or get in trouble with law enforcement.

I would also call animal control, they are being irresponsible owners, don't let your dog get the rap for it. Is there any leash laws in your area? If so you could pursue it that way as well...

  13. I would not call animal control. They do have the ability to take dogs away from owners. This is not what is intended. The intent is to have these irresponsible owners learn better safety measures/precautions.

I like Jankab's idea, i'm sure that would go over well in the neighborhood. Mrsdano first of all i'm a girl not a he. I do agree with you though I don't want to add another bad rep to pit bulls, it is so infuriating though when someone can be that careless with a dog they supposedly love.

I do apologize about the he/she thing lmao. And also I know what you mean bout how people are when it comes to there animals, we have neighbours behind us and they have a mean lab cross and he always gets off his lead ( always left outside even when there's thunderstorms and he's scared shitless of them) But we had our dogs out on day and her dog came out and so we quickly gout our dogs in (we do have a fenced yard) but still didn't want nothing to happen so got them inside and Dano went over to tell her to keep her dog on a leash or inside cause if our dogs did anything it would be our fault not there's and she told him just to kick her dog in the chest and he will go away, and Dano told her no keep your dog properly contained and she said well, if your dog was to get a hold of him it would be her dogs own damn fault, and to bad for him. But neways we just ignored it and we always go outside with our 2 so nothing does happen. But there's stupid people all over this world and they just don't give a shit about anything but themselves it's sickning, All of us "Pit Bull" owners need to keep our dogs as safe as can be from these stupid people cause the one's that dont' like them are gonna be the one's that make problems occour so are dogs are taken away from us all. We need to all stand up for our breed and use our voices for them, and not let people walk all over them, like welcome mats.

I totally agree. The frustrating thing is the girl that owns this dog has two sisters that also live on the road so ofcourse if anything happens the whole damn neighborhood is going to make it look like natas' fault. I have also talked to other people on the road about the incident and make sure natas does nothing to give them reason to complain.

this is an excellent suggestion. lol. well of course besides calling the animal control people and have their lil mutt hauled off. i got lucky in a case like this. my dog attacked the neighbors dust mop mutt. well they called the sherrif and dog catcher. sheriff told em they could do nothing because my dog was in my yard and that if anything they should take their dog because it was running loose.

  18. I hate irresponsible owners like that. I once had a dog follow me home a mile from where it lived.

If the dogs is always in your yard, put it in the car and take it for a ride into the country...;) Apparently they don't give a rats ass about their dog so why should anyone else?
