come on now i was gonna get a tosa inu but dont like there look ussally so i will go with yhis breed like i said to guard my yard
LoL I seriously hope you was joking when making the above statement! You should seriously do much more in-depth research on protection work before you get a dog/breed! Not to mention you’re already asking for failure is the yard has dogs in it that also need guarded!

Am I reading this right?? Is wisconsindog saying he wants to breed a pit bull to an Akita to get a guard dog?? If that is the case, that has to be one of the most asinine things I have ever read!!

First off, a "pitkita" would make a simply awful guard for a yard of dogs. Hello Mc Fly! Anybody home?? Both the pit bull & the akita are fighting dogs! A pitkita isn't going to want to guard anything - it's going to want to fight! Use a pitkita as a guard dog & all you'll end up w/ is a yard of torn up bulldogs, ruined kennels & a dead pitkita!

Secondly, if you want a guard dog, why not get a dog bred for guarding?? I have used German Shepherd Dogs myself, but now use Dobermans, as GSDs suffer too much from the heat. Both work great. Not only are they bred to guard & thus excel at it, they are a psychological deterrent as well. GSDs are known as "police" dogs" & Dobies are known as "attack dogs." Deterring a theft in the first place is half the battle & when folks see a GSD or Doberman patrolling the yard all those movies in which a GSD or Dobie runs down a thief & viciously attacks them creep into their mind. As a result many thieves will just walk away. As mentioend before, a pitkita is not bred for guarding & thus will not be the best guard you can get & pitkitas look like a run of the mill sooner & would deter no one.

Thirdly, have you thought of your legal liability?? Both pit bulls & akitas are on most cities dangerous dog lists. If a thief gets bit by your pitkita, guess who's legally liable? That's right - you!! There has been a case in which a thief broke into a home & got bit by the family pit bull. The thief sued the family for his medical costs & won!! So go ahead w/ your pitkita. I'm sure plenty of ppl will be laughing their tails off when you get sued & your whole yard of dogs gets taken.

Finally, if your dogs are so valuable, why entrust them to a falliable canine? Didn't you read the thread on here where a guard dog was distracted by a bitch in heat?? The thieves broke in while the guard dog was occupied & stole $10,000! I myself use multiple obsticles to prevent theft, not just a dog. If you rely on a dog alone you will be sorely disappointed b/c dogs can be distracted, shot or poisoned. Then what have you got? A worthless guard dog & a missing yard. If you've got big money to blow on dogs, why not try investing it in a nice security system instead of a pitkita??

    Whew ... OK guys .. I think I'm done ... lol..

Wisconsindog, how old are you? Do you know when dog fighting became illegal?
The garbage you post never fails to amaze me. Crossing the APBT with an Akita is not a new thing infact I have seen APBT's crossed with everythings from Chihuahua's to Wolves. If the cross didn't become popular why try it again?
Plus you have that gay, gang sign Folk Care Bear pic, definetly can't take you seriously posting that.

It isn't a breed it is a MUTT! just because you mix two different breeds together doesnt mean you made a new breed. It means you made more MUTTS to die in shelters alongside all the other mutts no one wants.

Well I'll share the same advice with you that I do with others....Close your yard! learn to be descreat. Do not brag on what you got or what youve had...Most of all what you have accomplished. Do not sell or place within the public. If you live in town and this is your main issue, you need to move those dogs....they don't need to be in town. Using a gaurd dog is asking for trouble.

  11. pikita, what are you thinking? Good God what will they think of next? Ya know my friend has one and she got him from a shelter. He is no guard dog thats for sure. Actually he is a whimp and is afraid of his own shadow. She has had him since the age of 8 weeks old. She has socialized him and trained him and he is still afraid of everything. He barks and backs up to hide when someone comes to the house. Please do yourself a favor and leave the thought of owning a pit or pit mix behind. This is where my favorite quote of all time comes in "Ban stupid people not breeds of dogs"

To the folks making personal attacks...please, keep it mature. Personal attacks on members are something the board doesnt need to see. Take it to pm if need be. No problem disagreeing beliefs or opinions...just please leave the attacks of the "personal" level alone. Thank you.

NO! For the most part are breed simply because one has a penis and the other has a vagina! There has to be goals and a standard being sought after with any breeding and this is even more so when mixing breeds. What is the purpose and planned outcome on this said cross? If simply protection why add the Akita being it’s well known for being a aloof, dirty breed that lacks endurance, drive and desire to work.

im not breeding these pikitas im not gonna have a dog guard my stock that can just bring a apbt and whip it either and then take my dogs witch i seen happen and yes they would fight my other dogs probly
Let me get this straight…thief comes to your yard (or anyone else’s) and instead of remaining stealth they intentionally start a dog fight? Doesn’t make much sense much like how you’ve witnessed it! Well no matter, being there isn’t a dog in the world that can’t be stolen by a human with the knowledge! Numerous protection titled dogs get stolen every year! What are you going to do about poisoned food or pepper spray? Research a lot more before getting this “guard dog”.

I'm gonna train it to be a guard dog they are a breed i would just like to own
First off it’s not a “breed” but a mutt! Second how are you going to train it when you don’t know something as basic as the characteristics of said mutt?

Pitkitas as guard dogs? What about the previous poster who knew a pitkita that was scared of it's own shadow?

As for kennels & chains, I use them too & guess what? Accidents still happen.

And as for training it, a real guard dog does not have to be trained. Guarding is an innate instinct. For example, no one "trained" my Doberman to patrol the yard.

In closing, If you really want a pitkita, why not adopt one from the shelter? There are probably several pitkitas in shelters waiting for a forever home.

you send them to school early thats how and every one has protective dogs and this is a breed being in the making for the last 10 years so i dont really care what 1 has on there yard but only worry about mine and yes of corse ant one can steal your dogs but im not worried seen these guys work and there are good guard dogs

  18. ABK

    ABK Rest In Peace

OK ... but in my experince that true guard dogs need no training. If you'll look you'll see that breeds like Dobies, GSDs, Great Pyernees need no training to guard.

As for them being schooled early, that will only ruin a dog. Most dogs who are put in PP training (I think that is what you are thinking of when you say "guard dog training") are done so at around 18 to 24 mos. No reputable trainer start training early & most would not would touch a pitkita w/ a 10 ft. pole.

But I have to ask - what's the point of having a guard dog that will get your yard taken?? You DO understand that if your pitkita bites someone - even a thief - you can be reported to animal control & your dogs can be taken, right?

And why do you want a guard dog that will put our breed in a bad light? You claim you love pit bulls but want to use a pit mix as a guard dog. You do know that if your pitkita bites someone it will be listed as a "pit bull attack" in the papers & will go down as a pit bull bite in CDC records right?

you send them to school early thats how
If you don’t know what to look for in a guard dog prospect how can you possibly get one well suited for said job-let alone reasonably expect someone to be able to properly train it for said task? How about the drives needed-what do you and the job require?

this is a breed being in the making for the last 10 years so i dont really care what 1 has on there yard
Whoopee…the lab/poodle cross has been done since the early 70’s and yet just now becoming recognized and being push to become a “breed” yet most still consider them a MUTT.
