  1. Hello Everyone I’m new to gamedogs had hounds for hunting my whole life and I am fascinated with apbts and the history been trying to research as much as possible about the history and teach my self as much as I can I went to bulldog hill for the bbq and made the decision in my head that I want to get into these dogs I may sound like an idiot I’m not trying to talk out of my ass by any means I know what it’s like as a coonhunter to understand that there’s a lot more into these dogs than I know but I’m trying to find some sort of mentor I’m young willing to work and know that I don’t know a whole lot but I’m trying to find a pup that is bred to do exactly what these dogs are for the only problem is there is no way to know before you purchase a pup it’s not like Coondogs where you can hunt with the sire or dam and know roughly what the pups will turn out like I understand basic genetics They won’t all be perfect but I like to have proof before I purchase any help would be appreciated i have an extremely strong desire to learn more and see more than I have and I know this day and age is a really rough one to try to learn about this stuff i try to act as professional as I can and would love if I could get the opportunity to meet someone who would help if I could it’s a damn shame our country is like this and a damn shame I wasn’t born earlier or into these dogs feel free to give any advice

They are bred to be dogs just like anything else. Time is the best mentor one can have. If you're stupid enough to get you one then any pup will do truthfully. Because at the end of the day the man behind the dog is the biggest factor. The only certainty is they will take up all your time money and sanity with very little paybacks. Enjoy your life stay with the coon dogs.

Get yourself a good mentor and learn the history behind the APBT. They are a different breed than a coonhound. They are genetically different and have different traits.

Well, you’ve answered a lot of your own questions. You weren’t born at a time to do what these dogs were bred to do. If you decide to go that route- that’s your decision. Ask yourself- is the juice worth the squeeze? I’m no dogman, but I’ve got plenty of holes in my hands from owning rough curs, and not knowing why they had that NEED. It’s not something you can turn off and on. It doesn’t matter how much time you spend with these animals; once their turned on- that’s that. It’s not enjoyable, fun, or rewarding. It’s a huge pain in the balls. Unless you have acres of property to properly tuck them away, and care for them- don’t get a game dog. You’ll find yourself asking, “why does this asshole have to kill every single fucking animal it’s sees”. Why is he breaking my car window to get a a dog 200ft away? What is this sound, banchees!? Listen man, they’re just another dog with a much higher propensity for dog aggression and the ability to do something about it. That’s it. They’re not shrouded in mystery. Shoot, if you conditioned a coon hound- you could make an extremely rough dog. These guys just typically work right out of the box. Not hating on them- they are just a TON of work to own them properly.

^---- He's actually pretty spot on there.

They can be great dogs but they are extremely high maintenance animals that require much more than most other breeds because of their natural tendencies.

Good luck on whatever you do.

    Oh yeah, Welcome.
