Oil keeps things lubricated but it also helps should they bring out the detectors.

it keeps it coated. the moisture in the air is what makes it rust. a chest or trunk isnt gonna stop the moisture in the air from getting to the gun. you wanna keep a good coat on it to protect it from the elements.

ok, i started this thread based on the fact that im looking for a new firearm, and i think ive narrowed it down to two. the first is the Savage 110FCM tactical scout model from their law enforcement line. its essentially a short barrelled (20").308 with peep sights and a forward scope mount thatll allow a low magnification scope to be placed forward on the barrel (which i probably wont do) the benefit is you dont have to close an eye to use the scope, so you have a full view of everything going on around you. i just prefer military style peep sights, and VERY FEW rifles are equipped with them nowadays. heres a couple pics of the Savage, the dealer i buy from can get me one of these for about $650 i added a pic with the scope mounted forward to show what i mean. this one also has a bipod for whatever reason. the second has the bolt removed, but it showed the rear peep sight clearly

and here is the Remington 7600 pump .308 from their law enforcement line with a 16" barrel and similar peep sights, but these are nite sights i believe. meaning they glow in the dark:D....it would be an easy one for me to train Mindy with because it operates essentially the same as their 870 line of shotguns(which i already have 2), and i like that idea. the guy i buy guns from is also a LE dealer, so he has access to these, and theyre completely legal for the average joe to own, yet not mentioned on Remingtons website. i can get one for $720...heres a couple pics, theyre not the best, but like i said i cant just grab em off the Remington site.

no its all good, i kinda went into detail so yall could get a feel for what i was lookin at. these are IDEAL truck guns. they aint pretty, theyre powerful, handy, and quick to get out the window;)...and yes, before someone asks i do tend to buy guns marketed towards cops. seems unfair they get all the good sh*t

Descisions.........descisions. 2 good short rifles there Woody. Savage rifles are known for extreme accuracy out of the box. I like the pump 308 as well. If I was in the market for a Remington pump-action rifle, I would buy a wood stocked older model 760 for about half the price of the new short barreled synthetic. Then, If I so desired, I would buy my own synthetics to interchange and still be way below $720. Oooohhhh. I looked at the rifle and I see why it's in your pick 2. The peep night sights. I retract my earlier statement. I have a 7400 wood stocked 30/06 semi-auto. I wouldn't trust it in survival situations because if it is not lubed up good, it will only function as a single shot. I keep it Tefloned up though. I like the Savage too though. Let us know what you pick.:)

I would be inclined to go with the Remington, Reason being is if your using it for a truck gun you obviously have a purpose. Be it threats around your property from varmints or you hunt in dangerous areas or just plum go into dangerous areas.

Reason I like that Remington is you will be able to eject and get a fresh round in there much quicker than a bolt action. Don't get me wrong I love both the brands and as I am sure you know both brands won't let you down but I just like a pump action rifle whenever I can get them.

I know the one I'd pick,I'd go Savage.I love peeps sights and I also like how quick a 2.5 power forward mounted scope is.I've never owned a bad Savage before.I have an old 8x57 mauser with a 2.5 power Weaver mounted just forward of the action and picking up the targer is fast with a low magnification scope like that.

anyone else thinking a 16" barreled .308 is gonna be a LOUD mofo?:D...i appreciate the advice. GH, you are dead on as usual, i also love a forward mounted scope and OT, the pump is handy one, i agree. the only thing i wish was either model was available in 30-06. i have a SERIOUS amount of that reloaded and waiting

Well a person may be able to build one for about the same price or just a hair more so they could get it to their specifications.

FYI, just in case you are serious, the firearm was only placed on there for the picture, and the sticks go into the snowman over a foot.

We got about 5" of snow today, which the sun came out and melted about half of it.

This is how he stands now...
