I finally got pics of my Texas Heeler (or not) Bear-Bart today. As he matures though I am beginning to think he is more Blue Heeler x Border Collie instead of Blue Heeler x Australian Shepherd (Texas Heeler). Here are some pics I took today, tell me what you think:

Our pup Bear-Bart (aged about 6 mos):

Bear-Bart is a wonderful little dog. Very protective & a wonderful watchdog. No matter what cross he is, I'm glad we rescued this little guy. :)

Thanks Rocky. :D Sometimes when folks ask what he is, I just say he's just an ol' Mississippi Sooner Dog. lol. The vet said he was a Texas Heeler when he was a pup (& he did look like one when he was little) but as he gets older I'm not so sure. I'd get one of those doggy breed tests on him, but I heard they're terribly unreliable right now, so I think I'll save my money. Maybe I should do like the cat folks do & just call him a "Domestic Long Hair." lol.

He looks mostly border collie, the sort of merle around the collar could be the heeler in him, you should have a good dog there, those border collies are crazy smart

Yeah, as he is aging I am thinking more Border Collie x Blue Heeler as well. He doesn't appear to be scared of anything. I take him with me on my walks with me (I feel safer, an APBT draws too much of the wrong attention) & he will run up on any dog or man that tries to come close to me. And he will remember what houses have dogs too. lol.

The only downside is he's getting bad DA. If he sees a dog but can't get to, he will run up & down the leash & bark his fool head off. Sounds like frustration barking, but I have found if he gets close he tries to fence fight.

He's already bitten a loose Shih Tzu. The Shih Tzu ran up behind us & somehow he saw it. The little yapper ran when he whirled around. Bear-Bart gave chase & chomped it right in the a.. Boy did that dog holler. I couldn't help but laugh. :D

Forgot to add - He is colored up like a Blue Heeler. No merling. He has the Heeler colors exactly, but his fur is medium long & silky like a Aussie or Border Collie. Here is a side pic of him:

I have a few border collie/blue heeler crosses and they make good dogs.

Smartest dog I ever owned hands down was an ACD! He was a big help on the farm and listened better than most peoples kids. They are wonderful dogs even tempered and great watchdogs. I have a blind border collie now(from age) and a young aussie but neither one are or were near as smart as my ACD. Good luck with your dog.

Mine look different. But with crosses you never know what side they'll take after.Mine are shorter haired.Your's might look a little bit aussie to me,but I'm not sure.My smartest dog is a 3/4 border collie and 1/4 blue heeler. She gets the cattle in,she know's several tricks,I can say chain and she goes to her chainspot and waits to be tied up,she even falls over and play's dead when I point my finger like a gun and say bang.I really like these dogs, they're really smart as a rule. You got a nice looking dog.

nice dog, i think you will find there will be more new colours and shading coming out until its full grown but , it wont matter what cross it is as all those dogs have more brains than most people, some bheeler can get a bit da and usually around their owner they can be very protective. i have owned all and , i have a dog trainer friend who owns a border collie, it is by far the smartest dog i have ever seen. has even figured out a way to throw its own ball using a flat old basketball so we dont even have to play with her if we want she will entertain herself.
i think your in for a pure workhorse good luck.
