Obedience class

Discussion in 'Chit Chat' started by postmandaboss, Jun 1, 2015.

  1. I put my pup in obedience class to try and get him some lessons and socialized before he got too old just incase I wanted to try an adba show for the heck of it. He was doing good for two days and apparently he turned on while in boot camp. Anyone ever had that problem? And also he just began his hog work with the same trainer one of the best in Ga. So wish him luck

    I'm all ears.

IMO some dogs just aren't meant to be obedient lol. You got some that are hard wired to do whatever to please you and some are more interested in pleasing themselves

I just had a 3 yr old dog turn on last week and his littermate brother was on at 7 months..You just never know with these dogs. And I could care less as far as a bulldog being obediant.Long as he understands no .

I've done obedience with mine, group obedience and i did some SATS Bridge and target training also. My dog does great with just me, but she ain't about strangers. She made it clear CGC and group obedience ain't for her. I don't push it, i try to focus more on what she excels at and enjoys.

  6. Yea that's what I told the trainer..he listens to me though. He's actually doing better with obedience but as far as other dogs.. Like I said he's not having it. As long as he listens to me I'm fine.

I used to do obedience training about a decade and a half ago. Now as long as they know come and know the command no somewhat I'm good. I wouldn't graduate with dogs that couldn't heel off lead. Lol they'd B line it for one of the other mutts. It's good to do with your dogs if you plan on it being a house pet..

I've never done any class but I work with all of my dogs with basic commands. "No, sit, get up there, get it, work it" is as far as I ever try to go. Nothing special, just simple stuff.

  9. Yea it's just often I take my boy on walks/runs and wanted to make sure he could be controlled somewhat of a child ran up to try and pet him. Children ask can they pet while going on for the petting. And he gets excited and jumps and it's not aggression but you know anyone could flip that around and I'd be out of a good pup. But if you put them in classes like that then if there's an accident it's like a resume' he's a house dog because he's my first one. But the rest will all be sporting dogs. And even he's doing hogs.

Great post... To understand what our bulldogs, children and our strenghts are, and access the tools to be successful at these endevors is ideal, but pushing ourselves or others to do what we dont agree with is unnatural which eventually leads to an unsuccessful teacher...
