The APA isn't a registery, it's a pulling org., so really all you have to do is show up with your entry fee, dog, harness & crate and get ready to pull. The rules are a little different than ADBA though....no baiting, one foul, pull 16ft in 60 sec... Here is a link to the rules http://www.weightpull.com/info/rules.asp

Hey Ozzy i would say if your dog is not the best of the best right now do not pull in APA APA is stricter and the weights they put on in each round sometimes is alot compared to UKC or ADBA pull...So unless your dog has been a puller for a while and is tremendous I would not go to APA for experience...There you have more dogs pulling no fouls...you can burn your dog mentally letting him compete in APA...so if you feel your dog is at his best right now then go ahead with APA if not...stay with ADBA to get more experience pull in UKC too...UWPA and APA is a whole other level...

I'm going to have to disagree here....Yes, the APA is considered by pullers to be where the best dogs pull. But, not every event is like pulling at Championships or a King Of The Rails event. Jeremys pull will have some good dogs there but it is going to be a pretty low key pull.

If you ask him he will let you put your dog on track before the event starts and even after the pull is over. There will be plenty of folks there to help with any questions you might also have about training and track work too. Don't be afraid of competition (bulldog folks tend to be pretty competitive..lol) or let folks scare you away either...how can you ever know how good your dog is or how good it could be if you don't try.

More fouls are not necessarily a good thing either...alot of times folks using multiple fouls at shows are "setting in" bad habits for their pull dogs.

like i said though if the dog is not experienced to get experience is not APA...you wanan start off slow then UKC and ADBA...

  8. I have seen "GdCh 2" Ozzie pull, and while he may not be your body pound winner at that show (you neverknow), he'll give more than a few dogs a run for the money.
While I think offering PPL sound advice like what was said about burning a dog because of the one foul rule, or just offering council as to the quality of dogs that show up so as to not get ppl’s hopes up, is a great thing. I am really surprised that anyone would be plainly recommended NOT to go to an APA show, esp one advertised as a “WARM UP”. It’s not like a KOR. Granted no one wants to see an inexperienced dog ruined, and that is one of the purposes of the one foul - that and not being there all day. Actually you are MORE likely to ruin a dog with the adba’s 3 foul system since you can let a dog stand there all day begging him to work instead of doing the right thing.

I pulled him n denver colorado last june, and he placed 1st both days getting 6410 and then we got a 2nd at nationals in utah in the 45 55 male class. One year and he has over 50 points. Not bad for a Gr.Ch.2 show dog that has no pulling genes n 7 generations.Last season he went 2 Benny and Anderia Douglas for a boot camp. They are very experienced in pulling, and love ozzy and his strength. All n all.Its about competing.Haven fun.So if we get beat it wont b a loss.Justa littlemore experience is what im after.
