First off: Thank you and your youngun for rescuing a pup :-) Give the pup a good home, and enjoy your time together :-) :-)

    Secondly: YES! Post more pics!

And Thirdly, some small advice, for you and your new little one:

It doesn't matter what it's mixed with, just make sure that the pup is good with kids and stays that way; and make sure the kids are good, around the dog too ... educate them:

    - never wake a sleeping dog
    - don't take a dog's bone or toy away from him/her, and NEVER go into the dogs crate after a toy or bone he/she has taken in there (and as the mommy, learn to practice "resource management" i.e.: you control everything, food, toys, etc. the dog is NEVER left to it's own devices with free feeding and free toys, as, this can fuel guarding behavior)
    - these are the "warnings" dogs give with body language and so forth (look them up)

    etc.

*I advise this, because even if your dog is a mix, and only vaguely resembles an APBT in appearance as an adult, if an accident happens, the reports will be "Pit Bull" and there's yet another black eye to the breed, and more importantly, there's some more kids who have been hurt by a dog (and we don't want that). Kids should have dogs and grow up to respect and love them, not fear them because of accidents due to not being educated.

Also, don't assume that your mix will be friendly with other dogs. By all means socialize the pup with other dogs (dogs that you know), but be prepared, one day he could get aggro with other dogs.

I say all this, because folks who acquire mixes can, occasionally, be surprised. I don't want this to be you.

    Other than that, yeah! Enjoy!

Sometimes they just say APBT mix because people wont go for a APBT. Its probabaly not mixed with anything.

That does indeed happen too ... Don't even get me started. Gary Hammonds said to me "70% of bull dog owners shouldn't own these dogs" and I agree with him (NOTE: I do not direct this at the lady who posted the original message), although, I also believe that, among that 70% contingent, as well as among the folks who could, in all actuality, own, maintain and steward an APBT properly and very well, a lot of them own these dogs and have no idea, in cases like what you mentioned above.

    "I didn't think he'd go after that Beagle, he's a Staffie-Mix..."

One time I was walking my bitch, it was pretty late but I saw a guy with a beautiful looking dog small around 45 pounds his dog was pulling twords my bitch and they were barking back and fourth, I asked him how he was bred he said it was pitbull-mastiff mix, and that he had just got him from a shelter and he had to be walked at night because of how dog agressive he is. I can almost guarantee there was no mastiff in that dog but i guess you can never really tell .

I can't really tell by the pics.Like was mentioned sometimes they say "pit mix" because it might be easier to adopt out that way.either way if I liked the dog that all that would matter to me.Good luck with your new dog.

  11. Thanks . We feel blessed to have found her. My son had a wonderful 5 1/2 year old Pit Bull that he's had since he was 6 weeks old. He was a great dog, good natured because my son had really worked with him using many of the tips you have suggested. {I gave raised an German Shepherds most of my life so my kids have grown up learning how to care for a dogs. There is a law in our city that all Pit Bulls must be neutered or spayed so last month my son took hos dog to be neutered. He was recovering fine but 3 days after surgery began bleeding and we discovered he had hemophilia. We wiped out the savings giving him blood transfusions but he would not clot and the vet said if we did not have him out down he would bleed out. My son has been really lost without his best friend so this new pup is really good for him. I have since learned that there is a test that can be done prior to surgery that can detect clotting disorders and I will insist on it when I have mt shepherd neutered. My shepherd, the one in the avatar is the same age as my sons new dog and I think they will be great friends. we are not letting them play yet because Angelina was just spayed two days ago. It is good to find a site where many understand, love and stand up for APBT's German Shepherds get a bad wrap too but not as much. We do not even let our dogs in the back yard unattended for fear a neighbor might poison or let them out. I have been socializing the shepherd since getting him at 7 weeks, as I am allowed to take him to wprk where he is around around kids, teens with skateboards and that Assisted Living where mom is and he lets people pet him with canes. As soon as Angelina has all her shots my son will take her out and socialize her. My husband and i have 4 adult kids at home, friends coming and going, three cats, and the shepherd so there is a lot of socialization right here.

...or because they don't even know what a true APBT is. It is is incredible the dogs here that are labeled so that aren't, and others that are get labeled as someything else.

I have a couple questions about some things you said. Why should you not wake a sleeping dog, or take their bones or toys from them?

  17. Robber

    Robber Big Dog

    Wow...

If you are serious, a dog will correct a less dominant member of its pack by biting it if they try to take something they are possessing.

As far as the former, see how you react if someone just grabs you and wakes you up at about 3:00 AM

    I hope you aren't serious :(

If a dog was to grab ahold of me or someone in my family because of a toy or because it got woke up I would cull that dog...seems that it would not be stable enough in my opinion. Why would you risk having a dog around that would bite your kids or you over a toy or because it got woke up? I hope you aren't serious!

I REALLY hope you arent serious. that might be some of the dumbest sh*t advice ive ever heard. my dogs better tolerate those type situations and then some

Good advice if you are greener than grass with the dogs . A dogman should be able to read his animal and forsee these types of situations. If a dog is suspect in any way it should never be in contact with kids.
