who did he beat? i ain't sure that's a real question? the answer is obvious look & the titles he won & figure he beat the champion in the division. & defences against 1-5 in the rankings. who else was he to fight? only 2 guys ever made the jump & beat the HW champion & RJJ is one of them. from 89 till 04 roy owed every division he was in.

You got that right Ben, there was no one that could compete with Roy in his prime... And other than Hopkins I cant even remember anyone calling him out back then!

hell im just glad i got to see boxing in it's prime. nowadays it's a fucking circus where more folks know the promoters & trainers more then the fighters.

  5. I can go with that. I saw him fight in his prime and he was real good. For some reason I have a hard time looking at him as an all time great. I guess you can also say the competition wasn't there at the time. I know that Larry Holmes held the title forever and beat all comers. I'm not a fan of his either.

I'm also spoiled to have seen Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Arguello, Hagler, Whitaker in there prime as well.

  6. Agree 100%. Cannot watch any longer myself.

I remember when Leonard turn the fight plan around on the "Motor City Cobra"! All those guys you listed were great. Haggler thumping Hearns lol... If I had to pick afighter from fairly recent times give Mayweather a run, it would be Hearns. Tall as shit for that division, with the reach and power!!!

i made a boxing thread this is way off topic but great post's.

  9. Loved the Motor City Cobra. Saw all his fights. How about the complete destruction of Davy Moore at the hands of Hands of Stone? How about Ray Mancini and Du Koo Kim. Shit, how about Mickey Ward Against Arturo. Now, we all are in agreement, it didn't get any better then that.

Hearns/FLoyd. Wow. That would have been great.

  10. o crime in Bradley's win over Pacquiao, Nevada rules without interviewing judges

LAS VEGAS – Many believe that Timothy Bradley's victory over Manny Pacquiao in their June 9 bout for the World Boxing Organization welterweight title was a robbery, but the Nevada attorney general said Tuesday it was not a crime.
Catherine Cortez Masto, the Nevada attorney general, wrote in a letter to Top Rank's Bob Arum that "there do not appear to be any facts or evidence to indicate that a criminal violation occurred."

That pleased Bradley manager Cameron Dunkin, who said, "I'm not surprised at all." However, it did little to soothe the feelings of Arum, who in the immediate aftermath of the majority decision favoring Bradley was blamed by the public for somehow influencing the result.
Arum said he didn't think the inquiry, conducted by Dale Liebherr, the attorney general's chief of investigations, was thorough enough. He sent a letter to Cortez Masto on June 11 requesting the result be investigated to clear his name and with the hope it would restore public confidence in boxing.
Not interviewing judges Jerry Roth, C.J. Ross and Duane Ford was a mistake, Arum said.
"I have no reaction to it," Arum said. "They spent a lot of time interviewing the referee [Robert Byrd] who had nothing to do with judging the fight, and I didn't see any interviews with the three judges who scored it? Wouldn't you do that if you were looking into it?"
[Related: See letter from promoter Bob Arum requesting a formal investigation (PDF)]
Ross and Ford each scored the bout 115-113 in favor of Bradley, while Roth had it 115-113 for Pacquiao. The overwhelming consensus of fans and media who saw the fight was that Pacquiao won handily.
Cortez Masto wrote that the judges were experienced and had the qualifications to officiate a match of the magnitude of Pacquiao-Bradley. She noted that all procedures were followed in selecting the officials.
"Displeasure with the subjective decisions of sporting officials is not a sufficient basis for this office to initiate a criminal investigation," Cortez Masto wrote. "Unless evidence beyond mere displeasure if forthcoming, this matter will be considered closed. While there may be strong disagreement with the decision, the exercise of professional judgment by individuals officiating at a sporting event is not by itself a criminal violation."

I just wish I was old enough to see that shit live
I follow all my michigan fighters though and hearns and floyd would have been crazy

Our opinions are going to be bias based on age as I'm gonna say floyd and those who seen hearns live are going to say the hit man

andre direll is another good one from flint michigan. he should have won the fight against carl froch, but they gave the fight to froch most likely becasue it was england. flint is throwing out some quick fighters. direll is fast, the fight he had with froch was a good one to watch too. it should be on youtube somewhere.

  14. The hit man was one that comes around once every 50 years. He was handled by the great Eddie Futch. Speed, Power and mean. He really should have come along in a different era and he would have been looked at as an all time great. There were many top notch fighters back then. Ray Leonard was the fan and the judges favorite. The two greats had to meet and Tommy got his shots in. Just as Ray.

Tommy was two big and powerful for Floyd. IF the two were to fight, I would bet Tommy would knock him out late. And, I'm a Floyd fan.
