Partners or Solo?

Everybody has their own path with these animals so how do you survive? With partners? Some kind of kennel or combine or do you go at it like an island?

How do you handle partners who may have different views on raising and keeping dogs or handling a fair number of dogs on your own?

  2. SOLO! Only way to go! When I want something my way I don't want to have to argue with anybody or even consider their opinion. Also if something goes south there's no finger pointing, it's just you!

I can see how partnership is the way to go for others, but just not for me.

I started off as a partnership and quickly learned that I could only operate as an island. Would rather run a smaller yard then deal with someone elses opinions on how I should raise the dogs or vise versa. He honestly just didn't care for the dogs the way I do so we went seperate ways.

i agree 100./. i have always done things solo with these dogs, and i really dont like people coming to my yard. I have seen so called partners come to blows because one decided to cut the other one off...to me there is no need for alot of partners and things the less you have in your circle the more your dogs will thrive cause you dont get side tracked with b.s.

With kennel partners. We have a couple yards and we all put in for food for all the yards. If we buy a grown dog from another kennel and you want say so on that dog then you buy an equal portion of that dog. When we do a breeding the pups are sent to other members of the kennel. We can work multiple dogs at the same or sometime we may tag team a stuborn dog thats hard to work. It has its ups and downs but i like it and its been working for us.

I have a circle of friends that all have dogs and we do something similar as far as helping with work and farming out pups but I will not co own any dog or have "partners". It was my brother and I and it almost came to blows due to his carelessness.

Solo is tough. I tried a partnership, but when you have to beg a partner to help you out and still get no help, it just isn't worth the trouble.

If I ever try another partnership, it will be based on how much the partner invests. Nothing will leave the yard for free.

i have a small circle also and have given them pups also but at the end of the day its just me. a couple of us hunt together and a couple of them almost came to blows over the dogs...but call me selfish but i really dont like getting pups from a couple of them cause i like what i like and they like what they like......

    Solo all the way,
but to really accomplish my goals I have to associate with others from time to time. Had a partner for years till something went south. Ruined a partnership and 20 year friendship in the same stroke. Like boogie said, by yourself you got no one to finger point to when your shit ain't working but yourself.

I know having kennel partners came in handy when 16 dogs had to be evacuated from n.o. for hurricane isaac. Would have been tough finding a place to stay if you were solo in a situation like that.

Every partner I ever had turned out to be in it for themselves at the expense of my stock so I will only do this thing alone from here on out. It's nice to know a few gamblers with fat wallets at the right time that you can trust to invest in a project but all and all 1 man, 1 yard and 1 ideal.

I agree about being solo but you need good friends to help you out can’t make it without good people to have your back and those good people are hard to find!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm too O.C.D. for a "partner." I got a hand full of cats that I deal with, and that's just fine with me. We help each other out a great deal, may even farm pups out from time to time but in the end I'm only feeding what's at my address. That way I can have a hand in what's going on. Alot of cats don't believe in the simple essentials...worming, clean water, above average feed, exercise, picking up do-do, socializing you know...simple stuff.

i got my set of buddies that i ASSOCIATE with, wouldnt call em "partners" based on the bad luck that brings, some may call it a circle, a camp a partnership whatever, the best i can say is find a group of friends family, whatever that you feel like you can trust.......keep your distance but keep the network goin......i personally believe if you want to keep smaller yards but hang on to the stock thats the only way to do it, sure you get disagreements, sure you lose friends........but shit happens, and you gotta do what you gotta do if you wanna comb through your stock with a fine comb.......just make sure theyre like minded and dont live right next door...lol

Bonnie and Clyde, or me and my ole lady. She can work, rub, wash, feed, clip nails, brush, talk to, and just chill with the hounds whenever she likes, and or at my discretion. She always has the best interest in mind for the dogs, and i have an influence over her. Most people you won't have an influence over, and even though she can do all of these things, she is not me and noone can take care of my hounds better than I can. I would say solo, but without my better half, I would be a slave to dogs.

About Time Combine, We have a LOT more to look at to see who has the best and then we hunt the woods with the best of the combine, I like my combine we all get along great and so far every one works things out, we ask for each others help when we need each other, and its cool to look over and see your boys pulling just as hard for the win as you are. A few things we do that make it better Every one is a part no one has a bigger voice, Each of us have our own yards that we do our thing with, But we still keep it together we cross our best and only sell just what we have to to keep the feed coming threw the yard. It just works out better for us that way. If you have 5 guys that can do it and get along, it makes it a lot better on you. If I had to care for all the dogs in the combine I would have to care for dogs 24 hrs a day. this way we still can keep the numbers we have to have and no one person is stuck with all the work

But that said the fastest way to loose a friend is to partner up with a dog. LOL
