Discussion in 'Patterdale Terriers' started by EA kennels, Jun 13, 2013.

  1. my 13lbs 14month old patterdale just took a 28lbs bore coon. the coon lasted under 10 minutes. next up woodchucks for the farmers.

Don't give them to much hardship when their young.....most patterdales need holding back, keep at it longer that way.......

  6. that pic sums it up as for working dogs now days! proper after care is a must if you dont no how to keep you dog a live after then those people should not let there dogs due stuff like what is pictured above. dont jump in over your head and let you hound pay the price to many good and great dogs are lost this way.

I'm pretty sure those 2 dogs shown are well schooled in their art. ;)

Good advice, most will have to learn the hard way. Jus bc a dog will or can doesn't mean it should. They are some bad ass little dogs but why put all that extra wear on the body. People lose patts more than bulldogs.

I've seen similar (maybe the same) pictures on California Cathcers(?), and that guy uses lurchers and dogos along with his Patterdales, so don't worry, the little guys have got backup...

They think there bigger than they are, and will go to ground early 7 months or so, better to hold them to 15 months or so....normally work to a far higher standard.

EA, Don't get to used to that result..... not many 13# dogs will finish a 28# coons with any regularity. You do not need to wait any longer than you have, jagds and patts start early and are generally mature enough at 1 year old, to start working. Good luck with him and keep us posted on your luck with the woodchucks. Regards, Steve

pats are great little dogs my mate has 1 who lost all his front teeth on his bottom jaw to a fox in a very tight earth but hes still working. only been used in bigger earths now and since he lost hes teeth he has dug several more foxs and several badgers with no hold back in him.

  14. july 5th after running around a 12 mile country block blaze the kin of wilson's crash and wilson's lazer found a woodchuck and shut him down in 8 minutes even though she was blowing hotter than any dog i have ever seen and had rubber legs she still finished.
note: after that hunt i ran I.V. fluids and stiched a few holes in her face and cleaned them all. she was hunting more wood chuck july 6th.

That sounds real fun. Never really hunted with dogs before, this is how we do grass rats here:

Shot that bitch in her eye ball at about 22 yds 18 feet up with a real nasty mechanical broadhead. ;)

The dogs got 3 out of 8 of the one pictured offspring, My kid shot 2 more later that week with pointed pellets out his crossman. They do much damage to your yard. We shoot em on site here and if one strays to far from a hole one of the house bitches gets it.

One day maybe when I don't want to deal with the bulldogs anymore (if that day ever comes) I'll have to look into one of them lil beasts... ;)
