In my opinion patterdales are good at taking on pretty much anything, the dogs might be willing to take on anything, but that doesnt always mean they will come out on top.

  2. We run a couple of ours, along with Jagd Terriers, on hogs over here. You'd be surprised.

I have seen many 13-14# black fells finish bigger varmint buy the time they are dug. But I have also seen many great bayers as well. Many men bash others lines for this but remember the patterdale should be 1st and foremost a hunting dog.

Some lines of Patterdale Terriers are bigger than the standard. They were bred for european badger. After the badger hunting ban in England they could only go on fox. So they had no more work for the bigger strain. But some wild boar hunter are still using them in a pack. ...Here is a pic of my stud, who is a great pack leader and producer. He is a grandson of Gordon Mason's Nigger, who was the coverdog of the Earth Dog - Running Dog magazine in 1999. devil2.jpg

I think you are talking about the Mason in the USA. There is a big differnce to the dogs of Gordon Mason.

Yes, because if they are to big to hunt sets then they aren't any good here.

Ok, I don't know what size the sets in the USA have, but a big old set of an european badger have a hole diameter of 15 inches.

The cover dog pic of Gordon Mason's Nigger shows him when he was very young. The other pic shows him after some years of hard work. nigger.jpg nigger1.jpg
