I was wondering what do you guys think of helping out nature when they are stuck in a suburban man made area.

This happend a couple of days ago.
When i was on my bike, i seen some people standing around a little stream at the end of the bicycle pad.
I stopt to take a look why they were waving at me.

    There were 2 Swans fighting.
My first reaction was 'so what, this is nature' .
but i noticed it was the male from 1 litter attacking the female of another.
In nature i would not get involved.
But let me explain we have 3 litters of Swans in a diameter of 218 yards in a suburban/city area with a lot of houses and appartment buildings with not that much green.
The city did not relocated them like they do most of the times somewere else before they breed.
The female was stuck against a concrete little bridge with no were to go, did not wanted to fight and flee.
So when she had the change to put her neck and head away from him a pulled her out of the stream.
I know when this was a area with a lot of nature she would be long gone and be more sepperated in the first place.

This was the first time i did this i normaly do not get involved when nature happens, but somehow i blame the city and al the green we are taking away from them.
Years ago this same location used to be a big park spread around 2 hoods and they made it in to a bicycle pad and a dog walking place.

Was a wrong or would you have done the same ?

i like this post beanie....to be honest i look on things different now....from when i was a kid i couldnt give a fuck about birds, squirrels, bees, wildlife etc......but now....a little older...i hate to see animals in any bad situation they cant get out of that aint thier own doing.its a fine line.humans infringe on nature in a bad way, unknowingly certainly.some say nature adapts to it.but,if they dont adapt, well, its still our responsability to help.

I respect nature and wild life and I don't feel like a tree hugger for it I will act on the right thing when I come across them, I had a friend tell me he knew this guy and some of his buddies literally go around town and play a game by running over stray cats to collect the most points I thought WOW what sick minded evils.

I never agreed with the whole notion that it was nature vs humans. Humans are part of it all too. Just because concrete isn't as pretty as a tree its still a habitat. We build and other organisms adapt. Why is it so wrong when humans build and some animals are put out of their home but no one says anyting about a beaver cutting down a tree to make his. Aren't there animals who used that tree for shelter, protection, food, etc now put out?

yeah, now imagine if tomorrow beavers chewed down as many trees as it takes to build as many dens as we have buildings... they do all this tomorrow. Alot of ecosystems and habitats would be drastically different... far different than what they are now. humans have a bigger impact on the earth.

Nice too see i am not the only softy while i am getting older.

@ Peppa if i had seen that it would also been my first reaction at those bloke's.
Stil nice that they had good intentions.

@ Venom, i agree we changed it in a drastic short time and not every animal adapts as quick or as good as others.

not disagreeing that humans have a larger impact on the earth but we got to were we are now by evolving and adapting. people are quick to split man/nature as an us vs them scenario. we're all nature. man-made, beaver-made, ant-made, these are all structures created to improve a species quality of life. one species ability to thrive is going to conflict with anothers, they either adapt or bite the dust.

  17. I'm no fur mommy, but I've been known to be soft on animals. I've stopped and moved turtles out of the road, caught dogs running around on the highway, put a hurt baby rabbit in a box and given it to a friend who owns a farm and rehabs them (or eats them if they cant get strong enough to make it on their own lol), kept some down on their luck dogs til I found someone to keep em, etc - you don't have to be an animal rights nut to have a little compassion and care about the basic welfare of another living creature. It is just when you think those living things are entitled to human rights that you cross the line, nothing wrong with helping out so long as you remember an animal is an animal. :dogkiss:
