If the dog has the proper genetics, why not. I’ve no catch dog experience, but dogs which can work, protect/defend, hunt etc., and also be family pets at the end of the day is not a novel concept…

If they can do it, why not. There's plenty of working dogs that are also pets.

I went to SC to watch a hog dog rodeo. It was as cool a dog event as I had seen.

I took my Fila Braisleiro to a working weekend and they are suppose to have some herding instinct from yesteryear. She barrelled in a grabbed the goat by the side of the head and pinned it to the ground. It was not exactly what was suppose to happen but so it goes.

I took her to SC and put her in a pen and she caught twice back to back.

She was a pet. Her particular breed has been peddled and watered down to what was once a working dog is now nothing more than a weak-nerved, defensively driven, fence fighting couch potato.

Somehow some working genetic material slipped in from yesteryear and she was actually a half-decent working dog, actually a great working dog if compared to her peers (other Filas).

So yes, if the dog will do it, then by all means it should be done.

It depends on what dog you have and how much you want to make your dog a catch dog. I don't prefer catch dogs, so I would never have thought of making my pet a catch dog. Generally, I'm not too fond of those big dogs, and I'm afraid of them. I am more into cats. I have a cat at home, and I love it very much. It's so fluffy and funny. But recently, I noticed that my cat sleeps in the litter box, and I want to understand what the cause is. I went to the vet with her, and she doesn't look sick. I found some solutions to this problem on a website, and I hope they will help me make the cat stop sleeping in the litter box.

What's your definition of a big dog. I have catch dogs and my kids plays with them I have one I keep in the house too as a pet and will catch anything and your point is.
